Thom. Williams, a truck gardener at Speers, had a narrow escape from drowning in the Mon River at Belle Vernon Mon. evening. While waiting for a ferry to cross from B.V. he left his team, a horse and a mule, and, they walked into the river. There were beyond their depth when Williams saw them and made a dash into the water after them. He had just lumbered into the wagon when the struggling team overturned it, and it sank, burying Williams under the upset bed. The accident was seen by some men at a distance and they rescued Williams just as he was almost beyond resuscitation.
