All around the county are places with names given by the locals. For example, a creek / fishing hole /wading spot close to Buffalo-Independence and right near the State Game Lands is called Narrigan's -- because, I guess, Narrigan's house is on the other side of the creek. We used to start off on Jefferson Ave and at a red barn (on right) there was a turn off. Well I have one of those "places" but I can't remember the local name from the 1970 to 1975 (and my sister and I went there with our kids early 1980s--I'd ask my sister, but she died). If I give directions, maybe someone will offer the name I'd recognize. On Rt 40 East at Beallsville facing toward Uniontown, you make a right at the light at Beallsville. The road splits into a "Y" -- the left goes through "Turkey Foot" and past a golf course and place that sells mulch -- that's the wrong way. Back at the split, you'd take the split to the right.....and go on and on and on....until coming to a swimming hole. This has a newer cement bridge that goes across the creek (probably Ten Mile) but down a little further and within sight of the bridge is an area that starts out about ankle-leg deep. Walking in the water (toward the bridge) it goes quickly to waist high, to about 10 feet of water or more. The deeper part is near a concete dam-like thing that goes across the creek. Like I said, if someone used the "name" I knew it by, I think I'd recognize it immediately. Does anyone know the spot I'm describing? Judy
