Some "patients" were so ill or no one could give care that the person was placed in the county home. County Home record book ledger WAS in the Law Library. I have this on my list of to do's for my next trip back to Washington. Was he/she visiting or living with a relative? Just for fun (lol) have you checked all the relatives you can think of? Anyone out of the area? have not found Jesse/Jessie with any local Sprowls family. Not aware of anyone out of the area. Is there a County death record? On one of my curt house visits I recorded all family deaths from the death ledger book and no Jesse. But will double check - checked all spellings? 1 L, 2 L "ou" and "ow" maybe single "o" and double "oo" (heck, at least the "sp" part will always be the same LOL) yep- checked all spellings - even did search of 1st name with no surname, got nothing. Even searched mortality schedule with no names and requesting ALL deaths for Wash. Co. with birth year 1873 < > 5 years - no Jesse or anything close. born ? Oct. 11, 1873... hmmm not much help huh? did their church do baby baptisms? Not even sure what church that would have been - have not found any records that ever mentioned a church for this family. hmmm No idea of cemetery? thought it would have been Newkirk - but not there - but will double check again. I have a copy of the black funeral card for Jessie Manerod Sprowls - below name on the card it has : died Nov. 18, 1880 aged 7 yrs. 1 month 7 days NOW - 1880 census for Somerset Twp., Obadiah is listed at ancestry.com as OLE SPOLL - there is no child listed as Jessie in this census. 2nd - normal spelling of Jessie is for FEMALES - Jesse is for MALES - I was told by my husbands cousin that Jessie was a son - BUT I have proven him wrong in other instances. 3rd - MANEROD - have done many google searches and other searches for this "name" and zero results - I "think" that IF Jessie was a male, it could possibly be a misprint / mispelling of Maynard (?). And IF Jessie is female, that doesn't jive - female Jessie Maynard? 4 - Most of Obadiahs family is in Newkirk cemetery - but no Jessie / Jesse - (possibly buried on the family farm ?) 5- I checked the mortality schedule for 1880 - regular census was done in June 4, 1880 - and found nothing for Jessie - Jesse - or anythng that looks like it could be him/her. Only Sprowls was an Edith. And nothing mispelled that could be Sprowls. But if done in June and Jessie didn't die til Nov., the child SHOULD have been with the family. But knowing the secretiveness of this darn family the child could be ANYWHERE - ANY IDEAS AS TO WHERE TO LOOK OR WHAT TO DO NEXT? NOW - WHAT or where do I check next? Anyone have any records that shows a Jesse/Jessie Sprowls who died in Nov. 1880???? Thanks everyone for any leads or suggestions. Ruth Sprowls
