Ruth, I've been searching my files for Grandma's letters and the partial book she & I had been working on before her death. I found a few things -- and also copied what I have in our unpublished book. I hope this isn't too confusing... First I have PEES family (also spelled PEAS, PEASE, PEES, PEESE) ......and I have WALLER family. (once in a while spelled Weller]. PEES and WALLER intermarried many times-- in the same generation and in different generations. In the Pees family, many generations with names George and Andrew... and Mary. In the Waller family, many generations with names Andrew... and Mary. A Mr. Teagarden wrote about the PEES ancestry, but he stopped on my line after JUST naming where the WALLER line entered. So what I have typed below compared information to Teagarden's book. Teagarden was updating a book on the PEES family by John W. Anthony, so Teagarden himself was comparing his work to John Anthony's book. Teagarden used very confusing numbering for persons and families. There was an Andrew [B.] Waller [Sr.] who married Mary PEES. Their son was Andrew B. (who often went by A.B. Waller] and he was married to Sarah "Sade" Thompson-- that's where Thompson comes in (I forgot about her). A.B. Jr. was a postmaster at Lover PA. So, here is a bit of what we had and a few things from grandma's letters. Note: This is the work of Ruth Lane McGary and Judith A. Florian. *The Waller Family* *This is the family of Mary Pees, probably the eighth child of George Pees [b. 1770 - 1849] and Lydia Vaughn Pees. [Anthony p. 9-11; Teagarden, p. 15, __ ].* 8. Mary Pees 1807 1878 *NOTE:* See the family of Andrew Pees [b. 1763*- -*died ca. end of 1843-1844] and either Mary Engle Pees # 1 or Andrew Pees and Mary ______ Pees # 2. [Anthony, pp. 9, 11, 16-17; Teagarden, pp. 13, 153.] *VERY IMPORTANT* *NOTE:* Nicholas Pees designated as # 124, son of Andrew Pees, in Teagarden p. 13 [for whom he gives no family] has same birth and death years as the Nicholas Pees designated as 137, son of George and Lydia Vaughn Pees, in Teagarden p. 116-117. He also lists Mary Pees as number 125, as daughter of Andrew on p. 13, with the same birth and death years as Mary Pees as number 138, as daughter of George Pees and Lydia Vaughn. It seems *highly* unlikely that 2 sons of Zachariah Pees [b. 1713 d. 1818], namely Andrew and George, would have children with the exact same names who both were born in the same year and who died in the same year, namely Nicholas Pees [1806-1877] and Mary Pees [1807-1877]. However, in the Will of Andrew Pees, he lists a daughter "Mary, now Mary Waller" and in the Will of George Pees, he lists a daughter "Mary Waller." This Nicholas and this Mary both marry into the Waller family, which is our family. Since this writer cannot figure out the correct father of either Nicholas or Mary, these two children will be listed under both: as children of Andrew and again as children of George [Andrew and George being brothers]. The better way would obviously be more research, but this writer's physical condition prevents her from pursuing any courthouse research at this time. We would like to present the research we do have, with the clear understanding that these 2 children at present are presented with two different fathers. See Andrew Pees's section for the introduction of the family of Mary Pees Waller and Andrew Waller. A more complete description of their family will be presented later. Teagarden p. 15, 153 * * *This is the family of Andrew and Mary Pees Waller. * * * Andrew Waller 1805 Aug. 10, 1896 Mary Pees 1807 1878 Married unknown date Children: 1. Mary Martha Murphy is not listed in *PEES: A Brief History of the Descendants of Nicholas and Hannah Pees*, by John W. Anthony, M. A., 1931, p. 17. However, all eight (8) are named in *A Partial Record of the PEASE - PEES Families: Supplementary to the Book Compiled by John W. Anthony in 1931*, by Earl H. Teagarden, Manhattan, Kansas, Sept. 1979, p. 153. John W. Anthony's book has dates only on Mary Pees Waller, Andrew Waller, Lacy Waller Murphy and Franklin B. Murphy [only years listed]; Teagarden's book has no dates on any of the children. *Mon** Valley** Family Histories and Bible records (DAR), 1983, held at Citizen's Library, p. 55: * *Franklin Murphy Bible* - lists Lacy Waller Murphy b. She personally knew many of these people but never asked as a child "just exactly how are you related?" Here were her questions: *Here is what Ruth Lane McGary wrote to Judith Florian [letter postmarked Feb. 18, 1998] about the Wallers and various questions for research*: "Judd Waller and Martha McClelland Waller are the parents of Nannie Richmond. Ok. Nannie and my mother are cousins. But Judd Waller does not fit into any of the known (to me) family. Elizabeth Waller married Nicholas Pees. Who are the parents of Elizabeth Waller Pees? Who are the siblings of Elizabeth Waller Pees? I hang them on every branch of our family tree [but] I come up with another 'I do not know'. Andrew Waller and Mary Pees have three *known** children* - 1. Lacy Waller I know married a Murphy.* I knew about her and possibly knew her. 2. Andrew Waller, Jr. married Sarah Thompson. I think her nickname was 'Sade' in the picture from Nancy Strickland. [NOTE: Mrs. Strickland's mother was a friend of the Waller family. Mrs. Strickland gave Ruth Lane McGary some Waller pictures which Mrs. Strickland's mother had kept.] [Grandma doesn't name the third child here, who was Thomas McClelland Waller .] Could Judd Waller, Elizabeth Waller and Andrew Waller be related to each other? ... Interesting - Andrew, son of John Pees, probably, married Sarah _____ and their daughter, Sarah A. married Mr. Judson McClelland. Also had one son not named. So, we find Judd Waller, Judson McClelland, Thomas McClelland Waller [Mrs. McGary's grandfather], and William McClelland, a cousin whose mother was a Waller, and my mother's sister [Flora Wynona Waller Lane's sister]. Did it just happen that way? See p. 8 *Pees* by John W. Anthony. [Ed. Note: This is one reason for the question of was Nannie Richmond's middle name *maybe* 'Crouch' since we have so many in this family who carry family names as middle names.] Check out any of the Wallers I have named. Especially the family of Andrew Waller, Jr. He lived at Lover near Charleroi. Lacy Murphy's family lived in Roscoe. The daughter of Andrew Waller Jr. and Sarah Thompson (Sade) married Stanley Powers. Her name is Bertie Waller Powers.* ... All these families were from Centerville and Brownsville areas and my mother's family in Beallsville..." [Rest of letter omitted.] ========== So I have looked for Judd or Judson Waller - nothing. I know McClellan / McClelland family and Waller were related but do not know HOW. My direct line includes Thomas McClelland Waller. ** *===* *In the 1850 United States Federal Census > Pennsylvania > Washington > Somerset, page 6 of 36 at www.ancestry.com* line 5 #37--37 Andrew Waller age 39 male Mill wright 3,750 PA line 6 Mary [Pees] age 41 line 7 Lacy age 12 line 8 Andrew age 3 line 9 Thomas age 2 line 10 William age 28 Carpenter line 11 George age 24 Farmer line 12 Mary age 30 [how are the adults listed above related to Andrew B. Searching is hard with so many duplicate names. Any ideas about Judd Waller? Or any of these people? If Ruth or anyone can locate additional obits, news articles, etc. on any of these people, I'd appreciate a copy. Sorry if this is confusing. I was trying to reconcile Teagarden's book with Anthony's book--and with my own research. The only dates I can safely rely on are from my grandma because she wrote to / knew at least 1 or more people in each of these famlies. Judy * * ** **
