    3. Two New Coal Mines Operations have been started by the Pittsburgh Coal Company to develop some new territory along the new Montour railroad. One of the mines will be on the COWDEN far at Bishop in Cecil township, and the other on the GEORGE farm, in Mt. Pleasant township. A force of men is at work at each opening and the work will be pushed to completion so as the company will be ready to operate the two new mines by the time the new railroad is in operation. At the COWDEN farm contracts have been let for the erection of 75 houses, while on the GEORGE farm contracts have been let for 65 houses. At the present time temporary shanties have been erected to take care of the men who are opening the mines. Machinery is being placed on the grounds every day and from the present outlook two new mining centers will soon be established in the country. The machinery for the new developments is being brought in over the Wabash, and George Station has been moved about 200 yards further west to be nearer the lines of the Montour which crosses at this point. George Station has heretofore been a stop for milk only, but now it has been made a regular station and promises to become one of the busiest stops on the Wabash. The land where this mine is being opened at one time belonged to Gen. George WASHINGTON, first president of the United States. The Pittsburgh Coal Company owns large holdings along the route of this new railroad and it is expected that other mines will be opened soon.
