Deepest Well in the World Drilling at the well being sunk by the Peoples Natural Gas Company on the GEARY farm, about three miles northwest of McDonald, has reached the great depth of 6200 feet. The are now drilling in a clear white sand from which they are bailing water that passes steam when it is poured into the tank, having a temperature of 150 degrees in the tank. Before reaching this sand some exceedingly hard drilling was encountered through flint-like rock so hard that it cut glass as easily as a diamond. The Peoples Company had endured several vicissitudes in driving this well. A cavity was encountered which required about eight tons of cement to fill. Then the outfit of cable drilling tools was lost in the well for four months. The 6 5/8 inch casing is of an extraordinary character, upset ends being used with heavy collars, the sections weighing 23 pounds to the foot. There is now over 60 tons of pipe in the hole. National Government officials have been watching the operations all along, especially in the geological and heat phases.
