I have found a lot of info on Thomas Campbell and his religious achievements but very little on his sons (other than Alexander). The oldest ancestor that I have found was Robert James Campbell who according to his obit, was born in 1826 in New Geneva, PA (Fayette County) to Thomas Campbell and Jemima Turney Campbell. His father "Thomas" died in 1834 and the widow Jemima Campbell moved the family to Guernsey County Ohio. Several sources hint at a connection to Thomas Campbell: Robert's daughter Mary's obit says she was a great niece of Alexander Campbell A bio of Robert's son J.R. says that his grandfather "was a finely educated man who was for nearly thirty years president of a college." A newspaper article that claimed that Robert was in possession of a book belonging to "his grandfather" and "it is inscribed by the owner, Thomas Campbell, dated February 20, 1816." And yet when I try to research the genealogy of Thomas and Alexander Campbell, I find very little information and NO plausible link. Thomas had a son named Thomas that might be the father of Robert Campbell but the family trees I have seen show that he did not have a son named Robert or a wife named Jemima. So no link. Am I looking at the wrong family tree? Can anyone help me figure out for sure that Robert was or was not a grandson of Thomas and a nephew of Alexander? All suggestions welcome!
