Marriott West Penn/Allegheny Power retiree, U.S. Army veteran James E. Marriott, 79, of Fallowfield Township, died Saturday, November 3, 2007, in Jefferson Medical Center, Pittsburgh. He was born May 28, 1928, in Fayette City, a son of Thomas and Isla Snead Marriott. Mr. Marriott was a Charleroi High School graduate, Class of 1946, and a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict. He retired after 42 years of service from West Penn/Allegheny Power Co., Greensburg, where he was employed as supervisor of Transmission and Distribution center. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Coal Center, where he was instrumental in the merging of three rural churches to form Grace Methodist Church, by serving as chairman of the merger and building committees. He served as Scout Master of Fallowfield Boy Scout Troop and was a member of Masonic Lodge 615, Charleroi. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Verna Matheny Marriott; a son, Dennis Marriott of Whistler, British Columbia, Canada; a daughter, Sue Hawley of Roseville, Calif.; four grandchildren, Katie Leigh, Daniel James, Ali and Niki; and a great-grandson, Jacob. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Thomas Marriott; and a sister, Leah Stathers. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Frye Funeral Home Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela. Everyone please meet in Grace Methodist Church, 420 California Drive, Coal Center, for services at 11 a.m. Friday, November 9, with the Rev. George Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Creek Cemetery, Charleroi. Memorial contributions may be made to Fallowfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, 1660 Route 481, Charleroi, PA 15022.
