    3. On Sunday, February 28, Dr. Theodore NOSS, Principal of the Southwestern State Normal at California, died at Chicago. Dr. NOSS was recognized as on of the foremost educators in the state of Pennsylvania. His death was due to pneumonia, the malady having been contracted on the train while en route from California to Chicago last week, On Friday evening, February 19, Dr. and Mrs. NOSS, accompanied by Dr. H. B. DAVIS, of the normal training school, left for Chicago to attend an educational meeting and look over the schools of Chicago. Dr. NOSS was in a serious condition when he arrived in the western metropolis and on advice of physicians was at once taken to a hotel. He was found to be suffering from pneumonia. Bulletins received daily from the bedside indicated that Dr. NOSS was not in a dangerous condition. Last Friday he took a sudden turn for the worse and declined rapidly. The remains arrived in California Monday and memorial services were conducted in the Normal chapel Tuesday forenoon. Tuesday afternoon interment was made in the cemetery at Monongahela City. Mr. NOSS was a graduate of the Shippensburg Normal school and the Syracuse university. Over 25 years ago he was elected principal of the Normal and had since held that position. He was 56 years of age, his entire life having been devoted to the cause of education. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and was active in church work. His wife, Mrs. Mary GRAHAM NOSS, is a teacher in the California Normal. There also survive a son and daughter, Theodore Graham NOSS, a pupil in the model school of the normal, and Miss Mary Theodora NOSS, a student as Wellesley, being a member of the present senior class. Dr. John B. MEESE, vice-principal, will be in charge at the normal until the position of principal is permanently filled.
