Charged with having brutally beaten Dr. George L. MCKEE of Burgettstown, when the physician arrived at his home in answer to a summons, Sam MCCANN, age 37, of the Bertha mine settlement, was taken to the county jail Wednesday night to await trial in court for felonious and aggravated assault and battery. Dr. MCKEE was so badly used up that he was confined to his home for a few days, being up and about Wednesday for the first time MCCANN made the attack, it is said, because he felt Dr. MCKEE was too long in answering a call. The physician, however, had a number of patients in his office at the time and was unable to leave immediately upon receiving the summons at the MCCANN home. As. Dr. MCKEE arrived in the MCCANN home, MCCANN is said to have grabbed hold of him, knocked him down, and to have trampled him in the muddy street before the physician had a chance to defend himself from such an attack. After using Dr. MCKEE, who is about 50 years of age, so brutally, MCCANN asked him to attend to a woman member of his family who was ill. Information against MCCANN was made by Dr. MCKEE before Justice of the peace W. B. CULLEY of Burgettstown, and a warrant issued for his arrest. When taken into custody MCCANN is said to have been driving an automobile on the credentials of another, hence motor law violations were also charged against him, while C. T. HUFFMAN, age 45, of Bertha, his companion, was taken into custody charged with violating the liquor laws.
