    3. Prof. James A. WATT, late of Burgettstown, Pa., died in the Convalescent Hospital at Warren, Pa., January 15, 1913, of an internal hemorrhage. Prof. WATT was born at Coraopolis, Pa., June 6, 1844, and received his higher education in the University of Pittsburgh, from which institution he was graduated in the year 1869 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. In the year 1872 he received the degree of Master of Arts from the same institution. Immediately after his graduation he began his career as a teacher, the common schools of Coraopolis, Neville Island and Haysville, receiving his attention for seven years. The next five years were spent in teaching in the McKeesport Normal School. In 1881, with the establishment of the High School at McKeesport, Pa., Prof. WATT became the first principal. His connection with the school extended through a period of fourteen years. Prof. WATT resigned his office with the High School to establish a private school, which later became the Donora Business College, at Donora, Pa. While teaching day school, he also taught night school for fourteen yeas. As an evidence of the efficient and faithful service he rendered the McKeesport High School, Prof. WATT was presented by the board of directors with an engrossed (sic) copy of a set of six resolutions passed by that body, highly commending him for his services. Prof. WATT, while giving so much attention to educational matters, did not neglect his spiritual life, as his church record will show. At the age of about fourteen he united with the United Presbyterian Church at Gilead, Pa., in which denomination he was an active worker until declining health made it necessary for him to retire from active service. On February 3, 1882, he was ordained and installed ruling elder in the First United Presbyterian church of McKeesport. He served here for twenty years. He was a charter member of the Donora United Presbyterian Church and assisted in the organization of the Second United Presbyterian Church of McKeesport. Upon going to Burgettstown his letter of membership was placed in the First United Presbyterian Church of that town. On December 30, 1880, Prof. WATT was united in marriage to Miss Ella M. BROWN of Allegheny City, who proved a very efficient helper until her death a few years ago. Mrs. WATT was closely associated with her husband in all his educational and church work. Miss Bessie WATT, teacher of Room 6 of the McDonald school, is a foster daughter. Funeral services were conducted at his late home in Burgettstown, Saturday, January 18, at 10 a.m., by the Rev. R. H. MCCARTNEY and the Rev. J. B. CAVITT. Interment in Coraopolis cemetery.
