The Newly Elected Burgess Samuel H. PYLES, the newly elected burgess of McDonald, has the distinction of becoming the chief citizen after residence of very little more than three years in the town. Mr. PYLES was born at Midway, January 29, 1871, and is a son of Joshua and Nancy PYLES. The parents of Mr. PYLES are both deceased. During his active years the father was a farmer, but lived retired for some years before his death. He was a man of considerable prominence in Robinson township, where he served for fifteen years in the office of justice of the peace, and also tax collector. He married Nancy PYLES, and of their children Samuel H. is the youngest, the other three being daughters, of whom but one is living, Mary, the wife of Oliver DYHAR. Samuel H. PYLES obtained an academic training in the well-known Ingleside Academy, conducted here fro many years by the Rev. W. D. IRONS, D. D. Later he took a commercial course in Duff's Business College at Pittsburgh and became so proficient that he was engaged as instructor at the college, where he remained for eighteen months. He then returned to Midway and was bookkeeper for the Midway Gas Company for four months. In 1894 he entered the employ of the D. G. BAMFORD Milling Company in the same capacity, and gradually rose until he was its manager. In 1910 Mr. PYLES organized the McDonald Milling Company and he and his associates built the modern mill in the West End. This business enterprise has had a rapid and healthy growth, and the products have acknowledged merit. On October 25, 1893, Mr. PYLES was married to Miss Esther THOMPSON, a daughter of Russell and Martha (MCCARTY) THOMPSON. To Mr. and Mrs. PYLES, six children have been born, Myra, Wilma, Roland, Lyle, Helen and Miller. In politics Mr. PYLES has always been independent.
