Thanks for this information. It connects the dots for me. In Perry County, Ohio living next to Samuel Law was a Robert Law who I have always believed to be his father. Your Robert going to Ohio is a link. Also, my Great Grandfather, Andrew Jackson Law, had a brother James who wrote in an 1880 census that his father (Samuel)spoke "Scottish" so I figured the family had come from Scotland not long before Samuel was born in Washington County. It all fits. You have also shed light on a family legend. My grandpa, Lloyd Law, always said the family had some Pennsylvania Dutch in the line. You said that Thomas lived in Lancaster County for a while. Isn't that Pennsylvania Dutch territory? Robert could have married a Pennsylvania Dutch girl there which gave rise to the family legend. Just speculating. Thank you so much for this information. The origins of the Law family has been a mystery for a long time. Just as a point of interest for you, When Samuel and Robert moved to Perry County, Ohio around 1835 they had a small boy who was there who worked as a farm hand for them. The boy lived on a neighboring farm. That boy was Philip Sheridan, who became the famous Civil War General. Thank you again, Steve Crawford Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
