Abusing his mother for not having a good meal prepared as he thought she should have, Norval MCCLAIN was given a hearing Wednesday morning before Justice of the Peace COOK on a charge of assault and battery and default of paying a fine of $10 was sent to the county jail for 30 days. MCCLAIN, who is about 30 years of age, was said to have been drinking heavily Tuesday. Tuesday evening he went to his home about time for the evening meal. Angry because he did not think the eatables were good enough he struck his mother, Mrs. Katherine MCCLAIN and attempted to choke her. The mother with the assistance of a daughter succeeded in driving him away from the house. Mrs. MCCLAIN later went before Justice of the Peace COOK and preferred charges of assault and battery. MCCLAIN is said to have misused his mother on other occasions.
