PATTERSON, TAYLOR, FOLIART, ZANEY, OPEKA Vernon C. PATTERSON, 71, of Penn Hills, former superintendent of the West Allegheny School District, died Monday, August 29, 1983, in the Forbes Regional Health Center, Monroeville. Mr. PATTERSON graduated from California (Pa.) State College in 1933. He received his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Pittsburgh. He was affiliated with the West Allegheny School system for 37 years and was superintendent when he left in 1966. He was superintendent of the Swissvale schools until his retirement in 1970. He then formed Associated Education Consultants and served as its president. Mr. PATTERSON was a past president of the Phi Kappa Delta Fraternity and of the former Oakdale Kiwanis Club. He was also an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and was a life member of the National Education Association. Besides his wife, Helen LANDIS PATTERSON, he leaves two daughters, Anne SEGERMARK of Wayne and Mary WEIR of Rumson, J. N.; a brother, Harold of California, Pa.; and four grandchildren. A memorial service was held the afternoon of September 1 in the First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh. Burial took place last Friday in Rolling Green Memorial cemetery, Camp Hill, Cumberland County. Gordon W. TAYLOR, 89, of Albuquerque, N. M., died Tuesday, August 23, 1983. A son of the late James Samuel and Maude NEELY TAYLOR, he was born August 10, 1894, in Pennsylvania. He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie Lee COUCH of the Carnegie area; two sons, Richard of Albuquerque, N. M. and Gordon of the Carnegie area; three brothers; three sisters; 10 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held September 3 in the Montours Church Chapel, Oakdale R. D., in charge of the Rev. Richard JONES. Burial was in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were by the Thomas and Little Funeral Home, Oakdale. Mrs. Alda GODARD FOLIART, 75, of Robinson Township, Washington County, died Thursday, September 1, 1983, in the Canonsburg hospital. A daughter of the late Ray and Adah BATES PRICE, she was born March 22, 1908, in Pittsburgh. She survived by a nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. Cleon GODARD of Carnegie. Funeral services were held last Saturday in the Thomas and Little funeral home, Oakdale, in charge of the Rev. James SMYDER. Burial was in Chartiers cemetery, Carnegie. Norman H. ZANEY, Sr., 61, of Cuddy, died Thursday, September 1, 1983, in his home. A son of Adam and Elizabeth BOWEN ZANEY, he was born August 24, 1922, in South Fayette Township. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Mr. ZANEY was a member of the UMW and was past commander of V. F. W. Post 331, Cuddy. Mr. ZANEY was a former Scoutmaster of Troop 851, Cuddy, and a member of the Cuddy Sportsmen's Club. Surviving are his wife, Bette BURROWS ZANEY; two daughters, Nancy L. ADAMS of Cuddy and Mrs. Ronald (Linda M.) FLEEHER of Cecil; four sons, Dennis H. ZANEY of Cecil, James R., and David W. ZANEY of Cuddy, and Norman H. ZANEY, Jr., of Bridgeville, a sister Dorothy WAZ of R. D. 2, McDonald; four brothers, Earl of Bridgeville, Edgar and Adam of Girard, Ohio; and Raymond of R. D. 2, McDonald; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Coleman funeral home, Cecil, in charge of the Rev. Thomas LEMONT. Burial was in Venice cemetery. Mrs. Antoinette OPEKA, 85, of R. D. 3, Oakdale, died Monday, September 5, 1983, in the McMurray Nursing Home. She was born June 9, 1898, in Austria. Surviving are three sons, John, Frank, and Matthew OPEKA; eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the Thomas and Little funeral home, Oakdale, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be in Oakdale cemetery.
