BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION Clair John "Bill" Thompson, Sr. Clair John "Bill" Thompson, Sr. peacefully passed away on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2008 at Metropolitan Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He had been a resident of the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans the last nine months. Clair was born March 7, 1946 in Washington, PA, the son of Clair J. & Frances May Halberstadt Thompson. His father died in 1952 at Deshon VA Hospital in Butler, PA of TB contracted while in WWII and his mother returned to her hometown of Detroit, Michigan, where in 1959 she married widower, Henry Tullius. Clair was a 1963 graduate of Lincoln Park, Michigan High School and a 1973 graduate of Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan where he earned his degree in Business Administration and editor of the Farris College newspaper & a member of two fraternities. He served four years with the United States Air Force; at Korat Air Base in Thailand during the Vietnam War he was a Sgt. E-4 Phantom Radar Mechanic and otherwise served in Colorado, Panama Canal Zone and Florida. He worked afterwards with loss prevention, private detective, and as a teamster with Package Express in Romulus, Michigan. He is a past-Commander of B. V. Goodall VFW Post 552 in Lincoln Park, Michigan and served on various committees and in other capacities during his membership, and was honored by being granted Life Membership in the Post. Clair was also a member of the Robert A. DeMars American Legion Post 67 of Lincoln Park. Clair loved to fish and his fondest memories are fishing for small-mouthed bass at Lake Charlevoix in Northern Lower Michigan with his wonderful step-father, Henry, and brother, Tommy. Genealogy was dear to his heart and he made many contributions as a member to the Genealogical Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania for their quarterly, "The Keyhole." His contributions are also found on genealogy websites on the internet. He loved music of all styles and had a tremendous internet radio station that he shared with all. Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Frances Thompson of Wixom, Michigan and son, Clair J. Thompson, Jr. of Florida., two brothers, Tommy Thompson of LaHabra Heights, California and Donald Thompson of Angeles City, Philippines; step-brother, Greg Tullius of California and step-sister, Marcia (Joseph) Gasparovic of Schererville, Indiana. He also is survived by his aunts LaDonna Hill of White Lake, Michigan, Hope Diffenderfer of San Jose, CA, Patricia Thompson,Virginia Aulicino, Geraldine VanKirk, Irene Poland, and Ada Stickles of Washington, PA, uncles Lyman Halberstadt of Burton, Michigan and Bill Halberstadt of Bellaire, Michigan, Gerald Thompson of Pa., and numerous cousins throughout the United States, and several dear Wixom neighbors & friends who added compassion, fun & laughter into his life. He was especially grateful for the wonderful care of the doctors & staff in his ward at Grand Rapids Home for Veterans the last several months, John D. Dingell VAMC, Detroit in the past years, and the loving care at home from his guardian and devoted friend, Rebecca Davis Pauley. No service will be held according to Clair's wishes. Burial will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan. Donations can be made in his memory to The Childrens Fund at B. V.
