    3. CHARLIER, TURNER, BURGOON, COX, MCCLELLAND, HARPER, PETTIT, RAY, SNYDER Merle F. CHARLIER, 65, of South McDonald street, McDonald, died unexpectedly Sunday, May 15, 1983. A son of the late Peter J. and Evelyn MASQUELIER CHARLIER, he was born October 22, 1917, in Robinson Township. He was an employee of U. S. Steel, and retired January 31, 1980. He was a member of United Mine Workers Local 1397. Mr. CHARLIER was a life member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 22, Washington, and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 567 McDonald. He served with the U. S. Army during World War II. Surviving are a daughter, Roberta E. JOHNSTON of McDonald; three brothers, Clark CHARLIER of South Hadley Falls, Mass., George CHARLIER of Upper St. Clair and Donald CHARLIER of Castle Shannon; three sisters, Evelyn ARLET of Palm Springs, Calif., Dorothy PENBERTHY of McDonald, and Gerry BOAK of Upper St. Clair Township; and two grandchildren. A son, Donald M. CHARLIER, died in 1977. Three brothers, Calvin J. CHARLIER, Harry CHARLIER, and Melvin CHARLIER are deceased. Friends are being received at the Frank J. NATION Funeral Home, Inc., McDonald, where services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in charge of the Rev. D. K. LARSEN, pastor of the First U. M. Church, McDonald. Burial will be in Robinson's Run cemetery. Howard C. TURNER, 62, of R. D. 2, McDonald, died Saturday, May 14, 1983, in the Washington hospital. A son of the late Harvey and Elizabeth TURNER, he was born February 14, 1921, in Conneaut, Ohio. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and was a charter and life member of the Eighth Air Force 2nd Schweinfurt Memorial Assn., Inc., and a member of American Legion Post No. 485, McDonald. He is survived by his wife, Barbara HALLAM TURNER; a sister, Mrs. Hazel LUTZ of Eighty-Four; and two brothers, Russell of Green Tree and Paul of Bridgeville. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Thomas and Little funeral home McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Edward R. DELAIR, pastor of the Trinity U. P. Church, McDonald. Burial was in Robinsons' Run cemetery. Mrs. Anna CREAHAN BURGOON, 76, of McDonald, died Sunday, May 15, 1983, in the Washington hospital. A daughter of Peter and Cora HETZEL, she was born December 18, 1906, in Montgomery County. She is survived by her husband, Robert C. BURGOON of McDonald. Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday morning in St. Alphonsus R. C. Church, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Fr. Francis PUCCI. Burial was in St. Patrick's cemetery, Noblestown. Funeral arrangements were by the Harold K. WHARTON Funeral Home, Imperial. Mrs. Electa (sic) COX, 100, of R. D. 1, Hickory, formerly of Dunn's Station, died Monday, May 16, 1983, in the Breese Rest Home. A daughter of Daniel and Ellen MONINGER THOMPSON, she was born November 10, 1882, in Nineveh. She was a member of the West Union U. P. Church. On November 26, 1904, she married Jesse COX, who died April 25, 1961. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John (Irene) HILL of Lynwood, Calif., Mrs. Ruth CLARK of Hickory, and Mrs. Orva (Lucille) CUTRIGHT of Scottsdale, Ariz.; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A granddaughter, four brothers, and three sisters are deceased. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in Washington, in charge of the Rev. Robert E. BORLAND, pastor of the West Union Presbyterian Church. Burial was in West Union cemetery. Mrs. Ethel MCCLELLAND, 78, of Noblestown, died Saturday, May 14, 1983. She was born October 16, 1904. She is survived by two daughters, Norma POWELL and LaRue KULAK; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Thomas and Little funeral home, Oakdale. Mrs. Laura HARPER, 82, of McDonald, died Wednesday, May 11, 1983, in the Canonsburg hospital. A daughter of Walter Whitley and Della SAUNDERS, she was born July 28, 1900, in Laverman, Va. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, McDonald. Surviving are a daughter, Betty ALEXANDER of McDonald; 13 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Archie HARPER, is deceased. Funeral services were held last Saturday in the First Baptist Church, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Benjamin SCOTT. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Thomas and Little Funeral Home, McDonald. Howard M. PETTIT, 84, of Clearwater, Fla., formerly of McDonald, died Tuesday, May 10, 1983. A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson M. PETTIT, he was born in McDonald, where he spent most of his life. He had owned and operated the PETTIT funeral home in McDonald for a number of years before moving to Florida. Mr. PETTIT had served three six-year terms on the McDonald and Fort Cherry School Boards. He was a life member of Garfield Lodge No. 604, F. &. A. M., McDonald; and a life member of the McDonald Volunteer Fire Department. He had twice served as president of the Lions Club of McDonald. He is survived by his wife, Stella; a daughter, Eloise OCHS of Foland Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Leona JORDAN of Nashville, Tenn., and Hazel P. MASQUELIER of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren. A memorial service was held Tuesday in the Frank J. Nation Funeral Home, Inc., McDonald. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery. Mrs. Allie Mae RAY, 65, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Joffre, died Wednesday, May 11, 1893, in the Allegheny General hospital. Mrs. RAY was born September 6, 1917, in Alabama. She was a retired worker from the Presbyterian Hospital. Surviving are four sons, Charles, Jr., Joseph R., Willie L., and Edward; three daughters, Annie L. BENNETT of Midway, T. Nell WILLIAMS, and Anna Ruth RAY; a sister, Lola LEWIS; grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her husband, Charles RAY, Sr., whom she married in 1933, is deceased. Funeral services were held last Saturday in Pittsburgh. Burial was in Grandview cemetery, Florence. Rev. Lester I. SNYDER, 75, of Washington, who taught English for several years in the Fort Cherry Junior High School after retiring from the ministry, died Saturday, May 14, 1983. He retired from teaching in 1972. A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, he received a Th. D. degree from the Los Angeles Baptist Seminary. He served as a chaplain during World War II, and earned a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh. His pastorates included assignments in Baptist and Methodist churches. His wife, Alice Roxanne PETTIT, died March 28, 1979. Funeral services were private, with burial in Fort Indiantown Gap Military cemetery, Annville.
