Thursday February 02, 1923 page 9 Cumberland Evening Times (Cumberland Maryland) WILLIAM BAIRD William Baird, Romney's oldest citizen and perhaps the oldest resident of Hampshire County, died early Saturday morning at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. William N. BAIRD, Romney, with whom he has been making his home for about four years. He moved there from Washington D.C. Mr. BAIRD was 96 years, seven months and 17 days old and his death which was not unexpected, came as the result of the infirmities of advanced age. He was born at Washington, PA, July 1, 1827, served in the Confederate army during the Civil War untilhe was taken prisoner, and in later years held a position with the War Dept. at Washington where he was retained until after he was 80 years of age. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Hattie REMSBURG of Romney, and two sons, Ah. BAIRD of Richwood, WVA., and J. Nelson BAIRD, of Shiloh, VA. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Romney, of which he was a member, conducted by Rev. L. O. FARQUERON, and Interment was in Indian Mound Cemetery, in Romney. Ruth Sprowls
