The Charleroi Mail; Thursday, June 9, 1921 Page 1 John E. LEONARD John E. LEONARD, a retired coal operator, died at his home at Library, Pa., Wednesday, June 8th. He leaves to survive him his widow, Mary A. LEONARD; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen WEEMS of Atlanta, Ga., and Sarah, at home; one son, Eli P. LEONARD, of Brownsville; two brothers, Alvin G. LEONARD of Pittsbug, and Samuel LEONARD of Wilson, Pa., and one sister, Mrs. Holmes DURBIN, of Windber, Pa. Mr. LEONARD in company, with his father, Eli LEONARD and brother, Alvin G. LEONARD, opened coal mines in the vicinity of Brownsville, known as the Knob, Climax and Beaumont, about the year 1887, and operated them successfully until 1900, when they sold out to the Monongahela River Consolidated Coal and Coke company. Mr. LEONARD then engaged in mining enterprises in the state of Ohio with his brother Alvin for a few years later becoming associated with W.H. WARNER of Cleveland, O., in the same line of business, and remained the active head of these enterprises until 1916, when he retired on account of ill health. Mr. LEONARD was conservative to a fault, but amassed a considerable fortune due to his thrift and exemplary business methods, and always sacrificed his personal comforts to add to those of others. Some time before his death Mr. LEONARD realized that his end was near, but he was always cheerful and happy, and said repeatedly to his intimate friends that although he had not lived his allotted time he was ready for his departure. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal church of Monongahela. Funeral services will be held at his late residence in Library on Friday June 10, at 11 o’clock a. m., new time, and interment will take place at Brownsville cemetery on the same date. ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com
