He practiced medicine for 35 years in Florence, Washington Co., PA., after which he moved to Iowa. I have been trying to find anything about him in the history of Washington Co. but so far have found nothing. Please post this as it might catch the eye of someone else who is also seeking information. "According to the Madison Examiner newspaper, Jacob S. Pitzer died on the Sabbath, January 20th, 1861. "Dr P. was of German parentage, born in Berkley county, VA., May 30 1785. He studied medicine under Dr. M. Forney of Hagerston, MD., was married to Miss Eve Alter of the latter place and subsequently removed and commenced his career at Stubenville, Ohio, where after the brief period of 2 years his wife died. He was married a second time to Miss Ruth Nelson and afterwards removed to Florence Washington County, Pennsylvania. in which vicinity he continued to practice for upwards of 35 years, and was known "far and wide" as the most eminent and successful Physicisn and Surgeon. He was especially renowned for his remarkable success in Surgery and in the treatment of Cancerous and Scrofulous diseases. and undoubtedly, hundreds are yet living to bless his memory, and to shed a tear of sympathy when this little "memorial" of his sad fate , that after inexpressible suffering he died of one of those very diseases [Cancer] of which he was instrumental in relieving multitudes of his fellow creatures, shall meet their eyes. Alas! How mysterious are the ways of Providence. In the spring of 1856 they left their "Homestead" to follow and only son and daughter to their Western home in this place. On the 9th of July following, the companion and sharer of his joys and sorrows departed this life, leaving him almost disconsolate and altogether unlike himself of former years. Henceforth, this world was but a barren waste in his melancholy heart, and he earnestly longed to go "Home". He was a member of the Associate Presbyterian Church. A hunble and unpretending deciple of Christ, Bleoved and respected by all who knew him for his many virtues that brightened his whole career and left a mark of sincere affection for him on many a heart. Charity and Benevolence were his crowning virtues. "Faith' and 'Hope' of a blessed mortality accompanied him during his protracted sufferings and guided his footsteps within the "Gates of Heaven". He died without a struggle.
