ROOT, MAZEK, LOFFERT, CORWIN, MEHALIC, SILHOL, COOK, SAWHILL, WHERRY Ernest ROOT, 65, of McDonald, died Saturday, October 1, 1983, in the Mt. Lebanon Nursing Home. He was born July 12, 1918, in Danville, N. Y. He had been employed as a mechanic by U. S. Air until his retirement. He is survived by his mother, Ethel ROOT; three daughters, Rebecca RUTZ, and Diana and Susan ROOT; a son, Ernest ROOT, Jr., two brothers, Harry and Robert ROOT. Funeral services were held Wednesday morning in the Thomas and Little funeral home, Imperial, in charge of the Rev. Bruce OGLE, pastor of the Valley Presbyterian Church, Imperial. Burial was in Robinson's Run cemetery. Mrs. Barbara BARBISH MAZEK, 88, of R. D. 3, McDonald, died Friday, September 30, 1983, in the Washington hospital. A daughter of John and Louise BARBISH, she was born February 13, 1895, in Federal, South Fayette Township. Mrs. MAZEK was a member of St. Barbara's Church, Bridgeville. Surviving are a son, Felix MAZEK of Cecil Township; six grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian burial was held Monday morning in St. Barbara's R. C. Church, Bridgeville. William E. LOFFERT, Sr., 89, of Cherry Valley, R. D. 4, McDonald, died Saturday, October 1, 1983, in his home. A son of Erasmur (sic) and Elizabeth KRESS LOFFERT, he was born September 18, 1894, in R. D. 3, McDonald. Mr. LOFFERT was a member of the Center U. P. Church, Midway. He was a farmer in the Midway-Cherry Valley area. Surviving are his wife Luetta KASTE LOFFERT; tow sons, William E. LOFFERT, Jr., and Glenn LOFFERT of R. D. 4, McDonald; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was the last of his immediate family. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Thomas and Little funeral home, Midway, in charge of the Rev. James CRANSTON, pastor of the Center U. P. church, Midway. Burial was in Center cemetery. Carl K. CORWIN of Orlando, Fla., formerly of McDonald, died Wednesday, September 28, 1983, in Orlando. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Oliver CORWIN, who resided in McDonald for a number of years. He was employed by the Michael Baker Corp., of Rochester before he retired and moved to Florida. He is survived by his wife, Margaret CROCKER CORWIN, also a former resident of McDonald; two sons, Gerald in Germany and Carl, Jr. of Orlando; two daughters, Barbara HAINSWORTH of Arizona, and Sandra ALDRICK of Orlando; six grandchildren, two sisters, Blanche RICHTER of Aliquippa and Lillian MICHAEL of Georgia; and two brothers, Harry of Hopewell and Wilbert of McDonald. Funeral services were held in Orlando. Michael H. MEHALIC, 65, of McDonald, died Friday, September 30, 1983, in the St. Clair hospital. A son of Michael and Emma AYRES MEHALIC, he was born October 7, 1917, in McDonald. He was a retired employee of the Consolidation Coal Co. He is survived by his wife, Laura GREEN MEHALIC; three sons, Dennis of Upper St. Clair, and Edwin and Michael, at home; a brother, Earl of Weirton, W. Va.; and four granddaughters. Funeral services were held Monday morning in the Thomas and Little funeral home, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Deryl K. LARSEN, pastor of the First U. M. Church, McDonald. Michael resides in Midway with his wife and family. Fred L. SILHOL, III, 56, of Cherry Hill, N. J., a native of Bridgeville, died Saturday, October 1, 1983, in his home. A son of Helen T. LYNCH SILHOL and the late Fred L. SILHOL, he was born in May, 1927, in Bridgeville. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II and retired recently after 15 years' services as a cameraman for the Columbia Broadcasting System in Philadelphia. Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Joan GRIMES SILHOL, formerly of McDonald; a son, Fred L. SILHOL IV, and a daughter Cynthia Ann, at home; a brother, William SILHOL of West Palm Beach, Fla., and a sister, Mrs. Sally LASCHIED of Mt. Lebanon. Funeral services and burial were held Wednesday morning in Cherry Hill, N. J. Mrs. Belle COOK, 78, of R. D. 4, McDonald, died Sunday, October 2, 1983, in the Washington County Health Center. A daughter of Henry and Katherine KEMPEL KRESS, she was born November 21, 1904, in North Fayette Township. Surviving are two daughters, Edith CLARK and Esther GROSS, four sons, William, Wayne, Thomas and Edwin COOK; 18 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Her husband, William COOK is deceased. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Thomas and Little funeral home, McDonald, in charge of the Rev. Donald PATCHEL, pastor of the Calvary U. P. Church, McDonald. Burial will be in Robinson's Run cemetery. Mrs. Dorothy Jean SAWHILL, 52, of Midway, died Monday, October 3, 1983, in the St. Clair hospital. A daughter of the late Gus and Kathryn IZERRES GUSTAFSON, she was born October 24, 1930, in Titusville. She was a member of Midway U. M. Church. Surviving are tow daughters, Lori and Beth SAWHILL, at home; a sister, Virginia MCCANDLES of Titusville; four brothers, James GUSTAFSON, of Avella, William GUSTAFSON of Centerville, Walford GUSTAFSON of Titusville and Richard GUSTAFSON of Sheffield. Her husband, Thomas C. SAWHILL is deceased. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Thomas and Little funeral home in Midway, in charge of the Rev. Keith DOVENSPIKE, pastor of the Midway U. M. Church. Burial will be in Center cemetery. Howard S. WHERRY, 73, of Imperial, died Monday, October 3, 1983, in the Sewickley Valley hospital. He is survived by his wife, Barbara MESSNER WHEERY; three sons, Howard N., Albert J., and Larry M. WHERRY, a daughter Margaret Arlene CAIN; three sisters, Goldie ROTH, Anna Mae MILLER, and Ethel GARDNER; three brothers, David, John and Joseph WHERRY; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Moody funeral home, Clinton. Burial will be in Hebron cemetery.
