Born on leap year in Washington, PA, she was the daughter of Alvan E. Donnan and Adah Griffiths Donnan. Preceded in death by husband, James Edwin Duncan III, sisters, Adah Lindquist, Frances Spiegel and brother, Alvan Donnan. Dorothy is survived by her ten adoring children: Adah, Jim, Beta, Amy Wakefield (David), Gloria, Andy, Franny Furrier (Rick), Martin (Colleen), Sydney Duncan (Frank), Jesse, 20 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of Briarcliff College and spent most of her life as a homemaker. Her ideals and guiding principles revolved around improving the human condition. She worked diligently to ease human suffering, for the attainment of racial equality, and world peace. She was a lifelong member of the NAACP, ACLU, Doctors Without Borders, Amnesty International, Habitat for Humanity and others. She received! multiple awards for her dedication and accomplishments in these organizations. In 1972, Dorothy moved to Tucson where she continued supporting these passions. As a devoted member of the Southside Presbyterian Church, she became involved in the Sanctuary Movement. She began a showers program for homeless people and worked countless hours in the soup kitchen. Dorothy was bold and courageous, modest and compassionate. She was a woman of few words, yet those words provided much laughter and happiness. She left this world a better place, saved the lives of many, inspired others and will be remembered for her gentle spirit and transcendent beauty. She truly was an apostle of peace and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. A memorial service will be held in her honor on Tuesday, April 1 at 11:00 a.m., Southside Presbyterian Church with Rev. Larry Graham-Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Washington, PA at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made ! to Southside Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY.
