    3. Hi list, Where might I confirm the birth of ancestor Jonathan Walton b.16 Jun 1777 to Amos Walton and Marcy Lacock? We need to confirm the parental link for application in the S.A.R. This date of birth was calculated from the date of death on his gravestone and also as listed in the book, "The Tenmile Country and Its Pioneer Families" by Howard L. Leckey. Thank you. Jeannette

    3. Hi Jeannette, Birth records in the 1770s are pretty much limited to family Bibles and baptismal records, and these are not easy to find (if they exist at all). You'll probably have better luck proving parentage using Amos' will, which should name Jonathan as an heir. If Amos died intestate, look for estate records that identify his heirs and state their relationship to the deceased. You might also check DAR/SAR records. Perhaps other descendants of Amos and Jonathan have filed DAR/SAR membership papers, and all you need to do is to prove descent from a person in that already-proved line. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe the DAR won't require you to re-prove and line that has already been proved to their satisfaction. Good luck.
