To think that I almost missed this on the trip to Washington: Located at the Washington and Jefferson College Archives is the ORIGINAL document for "Moneys paid out for building the Courthouse in the Town of Washington by Andrew Swearingen and John Hoge, Esq. 1786-1789. The document has wonderfully legible handwriting - probably by John Hoge. It is very fragile and had not been scanned to my knowledge. It has many names of people in the area at that time who worked or supplied materials for the building of the first court house. The amounts are written in pounds, shilling and pence. I am working at transcribing it from digital images I was able to get and it will be published via the Genealogy Society at Washington (Citizen's Library).
