A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO CITIZENS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY AND THE TEAM OF PEOPLE WHO PRODUCED THE 200TH BICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION. My trip to Washington (from Washington State) was two-fold: 1) do family research on SWEARINGEN/COOKE and allied families and 2) attend the 200th celebration to better understand the history of Washington and Washington County where my ancestor lived. I want to specifically thank the following: The Washington County Historical Society - Janet Warham The Genealogy Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania - Dona Hamilton The Citizens Library - Ella Hatfield Washington & Jefferson College - Archives - Anna Mae Moore The Washington County Court House - Law Library - Patricia Stavoy The DAR branch of Washington - Billie Sue Serbak And the Golf Club of Washington (where the Cooke Burial Ground is located) - Connie Quast And countless others who guided me to new sources and to the roads I needed to take. Each piece is another part of the family history puzzle. It was such fun meeting so many friendly people and trying foods that were particular to Pennsylvania.
