Author: pnixon15378 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.washington/3871.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: There were three Stephen Saunders/Sanders in Morris Twp.: Father, son, and grandson that owned the same area of land. Stephen Saunders that you are speaking about owned a 300 acre patent called "Sweden". His wife was Catrine/Catherine. Many of the early settlers of Morris Twp., Washington County came from Morris Twp., New Jersey. Stephen sold out all of his land prior to 1800 except about 50 acres which eventually went to his son Daniel. I do not recall a will or estate record for Stephen Saunders. Son, Stephen eventually purchased back the eastern portion of what was the original patent. He did leave a will and I think he died 1852(?). Grandson, Stephen (son of Daniel) eventually bought back the rest of the patent land minus the 50 acres and he died in 1900 splitting the 300 acres between his two sons, Isaac Newton Sanders and Henry Sanders. In Washington if you can spend a day, the courthouse, Citizens Library, and the Washington County Historical Society are within one block of each other. At the courthouse, start at the Law Library and they can direct you to the different depts. there. At Citizens, check out the Special Reference genealogical collection and at the Historical Society, their genealogical library.
