    3. I am researching my Hewitt line in Washington County. Does any one know what town or townships they were in early 1800's and before. James Hewitt was an early settler of Carroll County, Ohio by 1808 according to county history. My third grandfather Peter Hewitt married to Martha ? purchased 160 acres and built a home (still standing) in 1828 north of the town of Carrollton . Don't know James connection to Peter but both are listed as coming from Washington County. Appreciate any assistance, Linda

    3. Linda, Hewit / Hewitt / Huet were primarily in the Amwell Twp / West Bethlehem Twp area (West Beth Twp was formed from part of Amwell Twp). These are eastern townships and along / near The National Pike (Rt. 40) before Scenery Hill PA (old Hillsborough PA where the original and current post office was/is). This area is the Ten Mile area, so named for Ten Mile Creek. They were neighbors to my LANE family so Hewitt's might have also extended into Straban Twp (no 'e') (now South Strabane Twp.)-- I can't recall if they were near my Daniel Lane or not. Could you send me a copy of the Carroll Co Ohio biography? Interestingly, one of my John Lane's (b. abt. 1780) children moved to Carrolltown, Carroll Co Ohio by the 1830s. Joseph Lane married Anna Dager, d/o Jacob Dager in Amwell/West Beth Twps, Washington Co PA. By chance, has LANE come up in your Ohio research? Migration often had families-of-similar-backgrounds moving in waves to the same areas. Were the Hewitt's originally from Frederick Co Maryland? Were they German Baptists? (now Church of the Brethren). Or, were the moves simply neighbors in Washington Co PA following old neighbors of this county to a new place? Other names you might find associated with Hewitt in Washington Co PA are Slusher, Baker, Flowers, Lane (I can't think of everyone right now). It will be interesting to know what family is the marriage connection, versus just a neighbor connection. Please send a copy of the bio. If you don't feel like typing it, or scanning it, I can give you my address.
