He was 78. Mr Smoody was born Dec 1, 1902 a son of the late Thomas and Mary Nagy Smoody. He was a member of ST. Sebastian Church in Belle Vernon. Mr. Smoody had been a resident of Belle Vernon area for the past 25 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen , on May 24, 1981 a daughter, Helen on Sept 20, 1976; and two sons, John in 1936 and Frank in 1963. A retired steelworker for U. S. Steel Corportaion's Irvin Works, Mr. Smoody was a member of the Hungarian Club of Pricedale and the MARS Bowling league Survivors include two sons, Alex of Louisville, Ky, and Charles William of Pricedale; five grandchildren, one of whic is Lisa Marie Smoody, at home; and four great - grandchildren. Friends will be received in the Shelby D. Ferguson Funeral Home, 700 Broad Ave., Belle Vernon, after 7 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. p.m. tomorrow. The Valley Independent (Monessen, Pa ) Helen N. Smoody of Belle Vernon RD. 2 (Gibsonton) died Sunday at 12:50 p.m. in the Mon Valley Hosptial, Carroll Twp. She was 75. Born Jan 6, 1906 in Zanesville, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Steve and Esther Nagy. Mrs. Smoody had been a resident of the Belle Vernon area for over 35 years. Mrs. Smoody was a member of the former Hungarian Presbyterian Church of Pricedale. Survivors include her husband, John Smoody; two sons Alex Smoody of Louisville, KY., and Charles William Smoody of Pricedale; a sister, Ethel Smoody of Crucible; a brother, Michael Katko of Booth, W. Va.; five grandchildren, including Lisa Marie Smoody at home and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, John in 1936, and Frank in 1963; and a daughter, Helen in 1976. Friends will be received in the Shelby D.
