    3. First, I'd read this sentence like this with my words in paranthesis. Upon the motion of Andrew Swearingen ordered that his Ear Mark (marks, plural) (which are) a (1) Crop in the Left Ear and a (2) hole in the Right be recorded. A "crop" I'd think would be any size of a "missing piece". For example, when cats fight and an ear is bitten or sliced with a cat's nail, it often leaves a "V" shaped "rip" or cut where the cartilage was torn and because the 2 sides could not be held together during healing, the injury leaves a wide "V" split in the tissues so it looks like it was purposely done. A man could get something like that when working near tree limbs; a cut from the hoof of an unruly animal; a fall onto a sharp object; a knife fight; a bullet that grazed and split the outer ear lobe. I'm not sure about the "hole" unless it was deliberately done? It may have resulted from a localized bacterial infection that ended up erupting through both sides of the ear cartilage. Or, a knife or bullet wounding....but someone would have to have really been off for where they were aiming! Where is this book?
