I agree with your theory about Mary possible death in NE as a reason for him to leave, but Samuel had several kids while in NE....one of which is Oliver Peter Staley (born 27 SEP 1867, Saline, NE) who as I said was my G Grandfather. If he did move back to PA instead of living with his children.....well must have had a bad fallout. If you had some hard document passed down through family I would go this route, but the census really doesn't give a solid path to go on. I'll keep plugging forward....so if you find anything else out, let me know. Going to see if I can get a lead on a headstone for Mary Faust in NE.
