I've looked both in Heritage Quest census and Ancestry.com census sheets and then line by line. When did Strabane Township split into North/South Strabane Twp? John Cooke & wife Sarah Swearingen Cooke are on the 1820 STRABANE twp. census and the 1840 SOUTH STRABANE Twp census. I cannot find them in 1840. Tax records indicate they are there. 1830 Fed Census PA, (missing- I looked line by line for Elizabeth Swearingen(Chartiers Twp& Strabane Twp), John Cooke/Cook and family in (Strabane Twp) Washington County. The only listing is for STRABANE Twp. (when did North & South Strabane Twp. Split?). At the end of the census is another listing for "Schedule of the whole number of Persons within the Division allotted to (name of person) by the Marshal of the Western District (or Territory) of Pennsylvania" - which lists Heads of household. After that a "Recapitulation by township" report is done. (possibly living in 1830 are John & Sarah Cooke, daughter Margaret, Isabella and Sarah Jane and son John L. Cooke - unmarried children. Also living with them or they living with her is Sarah Swearingen Cooke's mother Elizabeth Chaplin Swearingen). Can anyone shed some light on this?
