    3. possibly the census pages were unreadable and so could not be transcribed. In searching the 1860 census for my home county (Lake Co.,OH), the town of Mentor is not available thru all 3 sites that have census records. (Heritage Press, footnote.com and ancestry.). However, ancestry did transcribe Mentor, but don't know how when looking at the pages they were only chicken scratches. Ruth

    3. Ruth: I'm not sure about the 1830 one, but .... I found out something when I've had to actually go in and look at all the transcriptions in particular census. Sometimes other community areas are mis-labeled with the person's name, and/or sometimes a smaller community or the beginning or the end of another is included under another nearby community area. So, if you can't find something, be sure to check all the areas around it by going in to the census itself and checking all the other page listings. Experience, as I'm sure Ruth knows, dictates that you ck. all the spellings and family members also, quite a few have been mis-transcribed or were spelled wrong by the census taker or skipped over the the transcriber to the census program you are looking at. If you find something be sure to report it. The program mgrs. appreciate it and always thank you. So, don't give up, just take a much closer look and take the time to ck. all the pages. Yep, human is as human does. ;-) nacs ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a private communication.
