    2. Most likely there wouldn't be a record for a Slave unless the owner kept a business record showing his assets or entered the death in the family bible, which sometimes occurred. Burial of a Slave would be on the home place, most likely marked with a field stone or unmarked. Free Persons of Color in that time frame would have generated the same kinds of records as free whites. A record could be found in the wills and estates or Orphan's Court records if the deceased left any minor children or unsettled property and in the deeds if they owned land. If they owned land they were most likely buried on it. Depending on their status in the community there may be a death notice or short obituary in the newspapers. I would also be interested in learning about any Black burial grounds in Washington County.
