One other possibility is that she is living/working in another unrelated family's home, but not enumerated as "Ann" (maybe by first & middle initials?) Or, was there an older relative who might have needed live-in help? Was she "away" at school? If you narrow down the church denomination she attended, I'd check church records for a marriage--if any exist.
