What would be the problem? I have an aunt who was born Feb 1906 in Allegheny Co., PA and died 22 mar 1907 and is buried in Monangahela Cemetery, Pittsburg, PA. When I sent for her death certificate, they said that there is no record. The family was not poor and so I am wondering why what are other possiblilities to find out the cause of death. She supposedly fell off a bed and died. Does that cemetery have a list of burials? Jean
Hi Jean, Which Monongahela Cemetery do you mean? There is one in North Braddock (Allegheny County) and another in Monongahela (Washington County). Since your aunt died in Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County, you might first try the one in North Braddock. Burial listings for that cemetery are here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tandnmca/monongahela/monce m.html . If you find your aunt in the listings, you can request the complete burial record, which should contain the cause of death. Cemetery contact info is on the site. The cemetery in Monongahela, Washington County, will reply to requests for genealogical information. Email your inquiry to [email protected] . The cemetery has a website, www.monongahelacemetery.com, but it doesn't contain burial listings. County registration of births and deaths stopped when the state took over this function in 1906, so records you're looking for should exist at the state level. Perhaps you will find something in the cemetery burial record that will lead you to the birth and death certificates - a different name, a different spelling, a different date, etc. Good luck with your search.
