Co., Chicago, IL, 1910 John Ringland came to this region in 1796 and built a house and mill on what is known as the Ringland farm on the S. Branch of Maple Creek. The farm is now in Allen township. [His daughter m. Abraham Frye (JR), being m. in the house where they both were born, Ringland having bought property from Abraham Frye (SR.)] Probably the oldest water mill on Pigeon Creek was Hair's mill. James Hair purchased the mill together with the farm from George Platter in 1806. This mill was constructed of hewed logs. James Hair also built a saw mill on this farm and another at another point on Pigeon Creek. These 2 latter mills still stand and are on the farm of William Williams.
