He is my ancestor also (John, Samuel J, John Calvin, my mother). I found his census sheets and they are posted on my public tree. John is also mentioned in several history books as the son of Judith (some say Jennet) Black Munro (as you mention, John was his step son.) It also says he ran their store eventually and was post master too as his stepfather was, and that's in some history books but not on the list. He was reportedly a Mason.
