He is my ancestor also (John, Samuel J, John Calvin, my mother). I found his census sheets and they are posted on my public tree. John is also mentioned in several history books as the son of Judith (some say Jennet) Black Munro (as you mention, John was his step son.) It also says he ran their store eventually and was post master too as his stepfather was, and that's in some history books but not on the list. He was reportedly a Mason. I am trying to find his father and the maiden name of his mother. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: JDJames89 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.washington/3987/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm not sure what early vital records survive for Washington County, but if anyone has access to some of them, would you mind looking up the following: Deaths between 1840 and 1850 with the last name Atcheson, Atchison, Acheson, etc. Marriages between 1860-1880 with the same surnames. Births: Joseph Atcheson (about 1833) William Atcheson (about 1835) Sarah Atcheson (about 1838) Matthew Atcheson (about 1840) George M. Atcheson (about 1842) I would genuinely appreciate any help with this as this is a long-standing brick wall in my family tree. I'm almost ready to give up on this search as multiple family historians have drawn a blank. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. The bill passed the Senate. It now must go to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. The top of this page http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access-ThisWeeksNews.htm#Oct 2, 2011 (note, must copy and paste beause the 2, 2011 is being left off the URL in this email program) gives important details about when particular counties stopped recording births. Halfway down the same page are specifics about the Bill's future. That section starts with: Senator Robbins' Vital Records Bill SB-361 was unanimously passed by the State Senate yesterday. 3. Dear List,   Someone recently was asking about Washington County Civil War Soldiers.   I'm scanning a book, title below, that is available on Ancestry.  I'm in a chapter that's listing each Monongahela City/Township soldier who fought in all wars!  It lists name, dates, and what happened to them.  So, if you have Ancestry, you can access this book!  It's a great read about the formation of Monongahela, churchs, schools, soldiers, etc.     Centennial anniversary of the founding of Monongahela City, Pa. : celebrated August 27th, 1892. Bell on the Hawkins family. Shame on me, as I failed to copy the title page and any source information the author may have cited about the information in his book. The book page I copied did have "Raymond M. Bell, 10 July 1985" typed on the bottom of the page. The page number is 153 and it begins with Robert Hawkins. The Hawkins family lived in Washington County and were early settlers. Thomas Hawkins, son of Robert died in E. Bethlehem twp in 1827.I am hoping someone may have a copy of this book and can tell me the book title and publisher.
