Margaret was born on December 27,1919, in Charleroi, PA, to Frank and Teresa Kalakewich. On September 6, 1942, she married Walter Altman in Fort Bragg, NC. He predeceased her in 1987. Mrs. Altman was the devoted and loving mother of Sharon Miller of Croton-on-Hudson, NY, Teresa Salmon and Barbara Griffen of Norfolk, VA, Gale McGuire of Buchanan, NY, Oscar Altman of Hampton, VA, and Walter Altman Jr. of Hollywood, CA. She was the adored Grandmother of Cheri and Jack Salmon, Melissa and Crystal Altman, Amanda and Brian Griffen, all of Virginia, and Robin, Robert and Michael Miller and Tana, Meranda and Shaun McGuire of New York. They were the parents of Frank, John, Helen (Pyrdeck), Margaret (Altman), Elizabeth, Mary (Rudolph) William, Anna Mary (Smith), Theresa and Robert. In attendance were 60 family members from Arizona, Illinois, Maine, New York, Ohio, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. Chairperson was Linda Carson of Charleroi. Her committee consisted of Beverly Williams of Coal Center, and Terry Salmon of Norfolk, Va. Jack Carson of Charleroi gave the blessing before the buffet dinner. The family engaged in games sports activities, and picture taking. Special gifts were presented to the youngest family member, Ciera, 3 - months - old duaghter of Brandy Pyrdeck of Tucson, Ariz; three surviving descendants, Margaret Altman of Norfolk, Va., William Kalakewich of North Charleroi, and Mary Rudolph of Sandusky, Ohio. Virginia kalakewich of Prosperity was honored as the only surviving sister-in-law, and Frank Pyrdeck of Tuscon, Ariz., traveled the farthest. Pyrdeck, 45, of Smithton, R. D. died Monday night in Charleroi Monessen Hospital. She was born Nov 6, 1918 a daughter of Mrs. Theresa Kalakewich and the late Frank Kalakewich. She was a member of St. Timothy's R. C. Church. Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband, Stanley; a daughter, Kimberly at home; a son Frank of Monessen; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Walter ( Margaret) Altman, Miss Theresa and Mrs. Harold (Anna) Smith of New York City and Miss Mary of Lancaster, and three brothers, William of Charleroi, John of Monessen and Robert of Claysville. Loot included over $100 in cash and coupong for 800 gallons of gasloine The Charleroi Mail Feb 9, 1948 Pittsubrhg, Feb 9 - John Kalakewich 32 of Monessen was held for further investigation today after a Northside couple found him prowling through their home when they arrived home Saturday night. Police said Kalakewich was paroled from Western Penitentiary seven months ago after serving part of a sentence fro burglary. The people I am looking for would be the first immigrants from Austria-Hungary/Poland/Galicia/Ruthenian/Ukrainians. The early years like 1890,s and 1900's I would like to know about what they did in Monessen for a living and what things were like. The names of my family were Kawalkiewicz/Kalakewich Feszanycz etc. These early immigrants were from villages Chystohorb(Czystogarb) and Komancza and Radoczyce etc near the Slovakian border. The destinations read Monessen, Donora, Charleroi etc. I would like to find some records of them in PA I already found some Feszanycz in Spangler/Barnsboro, North Cambria PA and I went to visit.
