    1. [PAWASHIN] PA Marriage Records Online
    2. L. Nelson
    3. Haven't seen it mentioned on the lists yet, so in case no one's noticed: last week FamilySearch.org put online 1.3 million PA county marriage records - images and index. Many of the Washington County marriages have the license applications and marriage returns, in addition to the digitized marriage docket books. What a Christmas gift! Leslie

    1. [PAWASHIN] Looking for my Clark ancestors
    2. Deloris Girard
    3. My John Clark ancestor left his brother James in Westmoreland and moved to Ohio about 1829. I read that Westmoreland had been broken up into 5 different smaller Counties. This is my first question here. And, I wondered if there might be any one that could be looking for Clark or McGuire family members? Deloris

    1. [PAWASHIN] Early Cain/Kain Families in Washington / Greene Counties
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: cainde Surnames: Cain Kain Cane Kane Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.washington/4007/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am seeking a connection between Jesse Smith Cane/Cain/Kain (b c1830 in Greene Co. d 1916 Morgan Co. IN) and ANY Cain family that may have been in Washington and Greene Counties between c1790 and 1830. Jesse Smith Cane/Cain's parents were Jesse Cane (b c1788 PA, d 1850 Pickaway Co OH) and Elizabeth (b c1789, d unk), and he had at least one sibling Sarah (b c1826 PA, d unk). Jesse and Elizabeth Cain may have been born in Washington Co. or travelled to Washington/Greene Co. later. The family left Greene Co. PA for Pickaway Co. OH sometime between 1830 and 1850. Since Greene Co. was part of Washington Co. prior to 1796, a serach of the 1790 Washington Co. census reveals: John Cain family (1790 Washington Co, p 199), who is also mentioned in Beers' Washington Co. PA history (p 1455). I believe he is also considered one of the earliest settlers of Washington and Greene Co's. I do not believe that Jesse Cain is an immediate descendent of this family, but could be a brother/cousin to this John. I have no evidence of this, however. A second John Cain is found in the 1790 Washington Co. census (p159). I have found NO additional information about this family but I am especially curious about him. There is also an Edmund Cain family in the 1790 Washington Co. census (p163) for which I have no additional information. Any suggestions, helps would be greatly appreciated. Also, confirmation that a Cain family line is NOT directly connected would also be helpful. I have comprehensive DNA information to share as well for those who use genetic genealogy as part of their research. Many thanks, Dave Cain Cincinnati, Ohio davecain513@gmail.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Dave,   The link below is for the Wash Reporter Newspapers online via google.  They are a wealth of information for anyone researching in Wash County.    I've been reading them now for the past 6+ months.  It takes a lot of time to do as the search feature doesn't work.  The earlier ones are shorter in length and faster to read/scan.  The later ones are longer in page size and number of pages and take considerable more time.  But, they are fabulous for finding information on the area, people, and specific surnames.   FYI.  I know I've seen your surname mentioned.  Where and when I have no idea, unfortunately.  I started with the very first edition available and I'm now at Dec 1893.    http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=f1xuXVtw34IC   Good luck.   Carole ________________________________ From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: PAWASHIN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, December 26, 2011 9:15 AM Subject: [PAWASHIN] Early Cain/Kain Families in Washington / Greene Counties This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. 1. [PAWASHIN] Governor Corbett signed Vital Records Bill SB-361 into law
    2. Gina Nestor
    3. Fantastic News! Governor Corbett signed Vital Records Bill SB-361 into law on December 15, 2011 as Act 110 of 2011. It goes into effect on February 13th, 2012. State death records more than 50 years old and birth records more than 105 years old will then be available to all at the Pennsylvania State Archives in Harrisburg. However, the new law does not require that they be made available online, but now makes it legally possible to do so. We have to be vigilant in making sure the Governor and the State Archives do all they can to make sure the records are made available online and that we don't end up with foot dragging or empty promises. Please visit our completely revised website for more information about this. Be sure to read Frequently Asked Questions for a detailed discussion and in particular When And How Can I Start Looking At These Records? for how these records can be put online at no cost to the taxpayer: http://users.rcn.com/timarg/PaHR-Access.htm
