    3. ORLANDER, SCHEFELBEIN Mike ORLANDER, 26, was killed and Frank CHRISTY was fatally wounded during a fight on the public road near Raccoon Sunday night. Patrick CHRISTY of Raccoon, who is alleged to have done the shooting, is missing. The trio had been drinking during the evening at a club and while on their way home to Raccoon a dispute arose, which led to the shooting. It is supposed that ORLANDER shot CHRISTY and that CHRISTY's brother then shot and killed ORLANDER. What started the trouble is not known. Officers a looking for Patrick CHRISTY. He and Frank CHRISTY are brothers. The men are coal miners. On last Saturday evening, between 9 and 10 o'clock, Karl SCHEFELBEIN, a native of German, while walking on the Noblestown road near the MILLER farm, was struck by an automobile and died from the injuries received before medical aid could reach him. The driver of the machine and its occupants are unknown, as they never made any attempt to care for the injured man. Mr. SCHEFELBEIN boarded at the LYNCH home in Sturgeon and had been in McDonald during the evening. He was employed at the mines of the Fayette Coal company and had been in this section for about three months. Papers were found on his person giving his name and the date of his birth and also when he came to this country. Mr. SCHEFELBEIN has a wife and family in Germany. He was 49 years of age and came to America in May, 1912. Services were held at the HUMPHRIES morgue at four o'clock Tuesday evening, in charge of Rev. CAVITT, pastor of the Robinson Run U. P. church.

    1. [PAWASHIN] "People For Better Access To Pennsylvania Historical Records"
    2. Victoria Hospodar Valentine
    3. I rec'd this today from a Yahoo group to which I subscribe. I thought some of you might find it interesting. Vickie "In an effort to bring Pennsylvania into the current century; this grass roots effort may help. Thank you Joe Bryer Requesting Genealogists/Researchers/Historians Lobbying Participation People For Better Access To Pennsylvania Historical Records (PBAPHR) We are asking for your help in a grassroots lobbying campaign to make older Pennsylvania state death certificates available on-line. As you may already know, all death certificates recorded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1906 have restricted access and require the knowledge of when and where the person died, the expenditure of $9 and a wait of 5 weeks or longer for each and every death certificate, regardless of how long ago the person died. We're sure many of you have experienced the frustration of either being told they couldn't find the death certificate or being sent the wrong death certificate. Several other states have already made their older death certificates available on-line including Arizona, Kentucky, Missouri, Utah and West Virginia. But Pennsylvania continues its outdated and costly process of issuing these older death certificates one at a time. We understand the concerns about privacy, identity theft and terrorism. However, there is no reason to keep all of these records restricted indefinitely. Therefore, our basic proposal is that the death certificates that would be accessible on-line would have to be at least 50 years old (and if necessary for extra security persons born more than 100 years ago). Currently that would mean only persons who died before 1957 (and if necessary were born before 1907) would be made accessible on-line. As each year passes the next year in line would be added to this on-line database. Federal census records are available after 72 years. The Social Security death index is actually fairly recent. There are numerous other records available on-line that are far more worrisome than our proposal could ever be. We are asking you to contact certain Pennsylvania state officials, preferably in writing or in person since it will have the most impact, but at least by phone or email. As we understand it only the Pennsylvania State Legislature can change the law. The governor would have to approve this change and the Pennsylvania Department of Health would have to implement any change. If you live in Pennsylvania please contact your representatives in the state legislature in person, by letter, by phone or at the very least by email. Everyone, including out of state residents, should write, phone or at the very least email to the governor and even the Division of Vital Records. Naturally the more letters and other forms of contact that are made and the more people involved the better. Here is an example of what our goal is. This one is for the State of West Virginia: http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_select.aspx or (www.wvculture.org) (Archives and History) (Births, Deaths, and Marriages) (Deaths) Page 1 of 2 Contact information for Pennsylvania State Representatives can be found at: http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/legis/home/find.cfm or (www.legis.state.pa.us) (Find Members By) Contact information for Governor Ed Rendell can be found at: http://www.governor.state.pa.us/governor/cwp/view.asp?a=3&q=437853&governorN or (www.governor.state.pa.us/governor) (Contact the Governor) Contact information for Pennsylvania Vital Records Division: Pennsylvania Department of Health Division of Vital Records 101 South Mercer Street PO Box 1528 New Castle, PA 16101 Telephone: 1-877-PA-HEALTH or (724) 656-3100 Facsimile: (724) 652-8951 Talking points: 1. In the long run, having older death certificates available on-line would be a cost savings to the state and the state gets away from the antiquated system of searching for each record one at a time. 2. The public would be much better served. 3. The age and year of birth guidelines will prevent identity theft and guard against terrorism. 4. There is no practical reason all of these records should be kept confidential indefinitely especially after a fairly long lapse of time. 5. Other states have already made death certificates available on-line. Why not, Pennsylvania? Contact person: Tim Gruber 610-791-9294" timarg@rcn.com

    1. [PAWASHIN] Local location names
    2. Judy Florian
    3. All around the county are places with names given by the locals. For example, a creek / fishing hole /wading spot close to Buffalo-Independence and right near the State Game Lands is called Narrigan's -- because, I guess, Narrigan's house is on the other side of the creek. We used to start off on Jefferson Ave and at a red barn (on right) there was a turn off. Well I have one of those "places" but I can't remember the local name from the 1970 to 1975 (and my sister and I went there with our kids early 1980s--I'd ask my sister, but she died). If I give directions, maybe someone will offer the name I'd recognize. On Rt 40 East at Beallsville facing toward Uniontown, you make a right at the light at Beallsville. The road splits into a "Y" -- the left goes through "Turkey Foot" and past a golf course and place that sells mulch -- that's the wrong way. Back at the split, you'd take the split to the right.....and go on and on and on....until coming to a swimming hole. This has a newer cement bridge that goes across the creek (probably Ten Mile) but down a little further and within sight of the bridge is an area that starts out about ankle-leg deep. Walking in the water (toward the bridge) it goes quickly to waist high, to about 10 feet of water or more. The deeper part is near a concete dam-like thing that goes across the creek. Like I said, if someone used the "name" I knew it by, I think I'd recognize it immediately. Does anyone know the spot I'm describing? Judy

    1. [PAWASHIN] GEORGE B. WRIGHT
    2. Hi Geni Cuz Susan & Other Cuz's of the WRIGHT'S GEORGE B. WRIGHT b. 14 Sept. 1824 - d. 4 Aug. 1863 born in Pennsylvania. He married LUCEINDA BOOHER on 24 Apr. 1849 in Greene Co., PA. She was born: 01 Oct. 1827 at Ryerson's Station, Richill Twp., Greene Co., PA. The daughter of: SOLOMON & MARY COX (BOOHER). George B. & Lucinda Wright lived in Wasington Twp., as he announced for the Sheriff of Greene County from there in March 24, 1858. (The Waynesburg Messenger Newspaper notice of March 24, 1858.) He was elected and served from Oct. 28, 1858 to Nov. 22, 1861 (Bates History) He died 4 Aug. 1863, leaving his widow and six surviving minor children. George appeared in the 1850 US Census under the spelling of "RIGHT", in Washington Twp. At that time, his household consisted of his wife, one child, Mary Ann (1849-1853) and two young ladies, Elsey and Martha WRIGHT (RIGHT), who may have been his sisters, based on their ages. His occupation was of a farmer. He appeared in the 1860 US Census for Waynesburg, with his wife and 5 surviving children, Elizabeth, Rachel, Emma Jane, Andrew Jackson and Nancy Ann. His occupation was Sheriff, and he also had a WILLIAM M. WRIGHT, age27, living in the home with his occupation listed as Deputy Sheriff, This may have been his brother , as George & Lucinda's second child was named William M. Wright. 1850-1851. Gerorge & Lucinda had one more child, GEORGE B., JR. in 1861, who died in 1953. Lucinda married STEPHEN WHITE in 1865, and in addition to the six children named above, they had 4 children of their own between 1866-1872. Stephen White already had 7 children by his first wife: Sarah BRADFORD, but all were adults and left home at the time of the 1870 Census. The six surviving WRIGHT children were all accounted for in the 1870 Census of the WHITE home. The only older Wright found was LOUIS WRIGHT, a Revolutionary War pensionser, but in the Census records of (pre-1850) show, because of the number of ages and sexes that he cannot be attached to anyone, but he could be George B. Wright's grandfather at best considering his age? In George, Jr's notations he stated that the "B" stood for his paternal grandmother's maiden name of BRUCE. My Grandmother NELLE CYNTHIA HOUSTON-FOX, whose mother was MARY CAROLINE WRIGHT married to: DAVID ISAAC HOUSTON, said that once she had a relative that was a Sheriff. So I'm wondering if This GEORGE B. WRIGHT is the brother of my SOLOMON WRIGHT married to NANCY GRAY. For Solomon Wright had a brother: GEORGE, who the first son, of ABRAHAM "Abe" WRIGHT, then there was SOLOMON, DAVID, ELI, SARAH, & MINERVA. And that GEORGE could have had middle initial "B" ? ? If we could fing out if SUSANNAH (Susanne)'s last name was BRUCE? ? ? Who was the wife of Abraham "Abe" Wright. His date would be in the early 1800's also, and in Greene Co., PA. This may be the puzzle? ? ? And the connection ? ? ? Hummmmmmmmm ! CARPE DIEM, Lori CHUCKLE: The main reason folks long for the good old days us that they weren't old then. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Dear Geni Wright Cuz ~ I've been getting those unsubscribe-only emails all day. I delete them because I don't wanna unsubscribe. I still have hope that someday, someone will post information about my Wright ancestors. George B Wright, 1824-1863, born somewhere in PA, died in Greene County. Known to have farmed in Washington Twp., Greene County, PA, prior to his election as Sheriff of Greene County 1858-1861. His parents remain unknown, although there is evidence that he had a brother, William M, and sisters, Elsey and Martha. We don't even know where George the Sheriff was buried. I can find no record of his having served in the Civil War. George married Lucinda Booher of Ryerson's Station, Richhill Twp., Greene County, PA in 1848 and had 6 children who survived him: Elizabeth, Rachel, Emma Jane, Andrew Jackson, Nancy Ann and George "Booher" Wright. Lucinda married her second husband, Stephen White in 1865, and had four more children: Lucinda, John Darling, Joseph and Montezuma (poor soul!). We do know where Lucinda and Stephen White are buried. I have looked everywhere on-line and have no way to get to Greene County in person. People who have the Cornerstone Genealogy Society publications of cemetery data and/or access to the newspaper records have found nothing. Does anyone have any information in regard to the parentage of George B Wright, late Sheriff of Greene County, PA?
