I can't find my notes, but I think the website for the National Archives is www.nara.gov this website will tell you the cost of requesting the records, and you can also request copys of the needed forms thru this website. The cost for the complete military records was $37.00 but the fee was increased within the last year. I think it went to a cost of over 100 (I think). Ruth
HEAGAN, JOHNS, SWEARINGEN, NOONEN William HEAGAN, an old and highly respected business man of Canonsburg, died suddenly on Monday evening of this week. Mr. HEAGAN was about 67 years of age and was born on the old HEAGAN homestead on the Venice road two miles south of McDonald. He had been in the grocery business in Canonsburg for thirty-five years, and was said to enjoy the personal friendship of more people than any other man of his community. Died, on Saturday, January 9, 1909, at 10:45 p.m., Stephen Stuart JOHNS, Jr., son of the lat Stephen Stuart and Annie JEWETT JOHNS, in his 58th year. Funeral services were held at the family residence on Tuesday, January 12th, at 2:30 p.m. Interment in Arlington cemetery. Mr. Stuart JOHNS had lived for many years in New Mexico. After a severe illness five years ago, he came home hoping to regain his health, but he steadily declined until his death on Saturday. Phillip SWEARINGEN of Burgettstown died Friday while on the way to a Pittsburg Hospital, supposedly from the effects of a dog bite received then years ago in Kansas. He became ill first of the week, showing signs of hydrophobia. He was seized with convulsions while seated in the carriage, en route to the railroad station and died in a few moments. He was born in West Virginia. All business men of Sturgeon have a sympathetic feeling for Mr. NOONEN, who lost his wife this week. Mr. NOONEN has been employed by the Railroad Company at Sturgeon for twenty years and is known by every man, woman and child in the village. *Sturgeon column

Dee, Not sure how many responses you've received, but here's my 2 cents worth! I don't know how much it costs to request the Rev War pension files, however, they are available on Ancestry.com. If you don't have a subscription, your local library might. And a trip to the library is cheaper than whatever the NARA currently charges. The material available varies greatly. Some is highly detailed, with wife and children named, occasionally a marriage date if you are really lucky. However, most do not contain that kind of info, instead listing where and when your ancestor served. That might lead you to clues as to where else to look for info. Another suggestion would be to visit your local LDS Family History Center and order the Rev War pension file film that has your ancestor on it. Someone there can help you look up the film number, or you can send me the name and I can tell you which film you can expect to find him on. I have the listing of Rev War pension file films for the LDS. You might also check with the DAR to see what they might have on your ancestor: http://www.dar.org/natsociety/pi_lookup.cfm Once you complete their form and get a response, if someone has joined the DAR based on your ancestor's service, you can order a copy of their membership application. Their membership applications usually list children, spouses, birth, marriage and death info. One word of caution...not all of that info is accurate and should be verified by you. Good luck...happy ancestor hunting! Liz
List Maybe someone will be able to help me out. I think I have a relative that was in the Rev. War. I do know year he was born, where and who his father was. Do I need to know what company he was in? Have checked Military Card File and there is a possible two. If I send for his records will I receive information like I did for the Civil War records? Will it tell me who members of the family are? What is the cost now? Dee in Fl. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

This may be a foolish question, but does anyone know of a printed list of 'nicknames' that I can secure? If so, please give me the title and a source! The nickname in our BURCH family (St. Fr. Co. MO) which I'm trying to identify is a sweet little white haired lady (in 1940's) who was called Aunt Mol. If it is to be taken at face value, (and the name was Molly) is that a nickname for another name???? I think it could have been a transliteration of the name Melvina (Aunt Mel) and through the years came to be spoken as Aunt Mol!!! Just a thought! Will appreciate any help you can give. thanks! Hi Everyone, I'm so excited! Just found an ancestral grandmother of my husband. Sarah H. Farquhar was born 1767 and died 1837. She was married to Joseph Wells born 1768 - died 1830. My husband's grandmother's maiden name was Wells, a direct descendent of Joseph and Sarah. He and I have studied the Well's family for many years. Please contact me off the list. Maybe, you two are cousins! Rosalie

A Hugh Power acted as executor of the 27 June 1797 will of Dugal Boyd of Fallowfield Township (Will Book #1) together with Dugal's wife Sarah. Does anyone have any data on this Hugh Power? Was he Sarah Boyd's father? The will lists Valentine Boyd as a son and inheritor of his father's estate. What became of Valentine Boyd? There were two daughters of Dugal and Sarah Boyd: Mary Ferguson and Elizabeth Woodberry (or Woodbury). Elizabeth was the wife of Nathan Woodbury of Beverly, MA who is erroneously shown in the 1790 census of Washington County as Nathan Goodbury. John T. Nichols (Dugal Boyd is a fourth great grandfather) Manassas, VA
