Judith (LOL - I feel like I'm talking to myself since I'm Judith too ), My Waller direct lineage starts like this... Pees married Anthony (surname) (twice)... Anthony married Denman... Denman married Waller ... Waller married Lane... Lane married McGary. Do any of those surnames fit into your research? But, I research full lines as much as possible so I research the "kids" of every family, their spouse, their kids, grandkids... to present (if I can). If you want I can give you more info on Wallers. Hi Judy, I am doing some research that include the Thompsons that you mention and would be interested in hearing from other Washington County Thompson researchers also. I have been lurking on the list and preparing to send some questions in that area so I might as well jump in now. Mrs. J. W. Thompson is likely the second wife of my great grandfather, Joseph Thompson Jr. 1845-1915. I am descended from his first wife, Margaret "Arabelle" or "Bell" Dye 1849-1872. The second wife is Edith L. Shearn 1857-1911. She is the mother of Eva June THompson 1887-1849 and Joseph G. Thompson 1888-1913. I am not exactly certain how the Waller's link to the Thompsons down the line but I have an unknown Waller in my tree who was married to my 4th great aunt, Elizabeth Leet born sometime probably between 1740-1770. Andrew B. Waller is in my direct line for the Waller family. But this Thompson connection is new to me. This could help me break some walls in the Waller research. Ruth, might you have time to see if there's an Obit for Bertie Waller and Andrew B. Waller, and for any Thompson from Coal Center or nearby?? **No rush if you can do the search; I know it's a busy time of the year, and these people have "waited" for me to find them-- It won't hurt if they "wait" longer--LOL. I had been adding to my e-mails the message to send Christmas cards to Walter Reed Army Hospital. This is a message I received from a friend in Korea. He is also a retired Army veteran now working there. I read the following link. Although the letter idea is not practical, it does tell you some of the things that can be done and how to go about doing them. doug, in Ohio I still see you are still putting send a Christmas Card to a recovering soldier at the bottom of your message . See the following at http://www.snopes.com/politics/christmas/soldiercards.asp

Quite a few months ago someone on one of the lists was looking for names of those who were killed in this explosion. Back in August 2007 while returning from vacation, we stopped at the rest stop that has the monument dedicated to the miners. (offhand I do not remember which exit this is, but "think" it is off Rt. 79 coming north, the 1st exit over the WV/PA border coming into PA.) I photographed the monument and all the names. I will list all the names for those that needed them. Prof. James A. WATT, late of Burgettstown, Pa., died in the Convalescent Hospital at Warren, Pa., January 15, 1913, of an internal hemorrhage. Prof. WATT was born at Coraopolis, Pa., June 6, 1844, and received his higher education in the University of Pittsburgh, from which institution he was graduated in the year 1869 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. In the year 1872 he received the degree of Master of Arts from the same institution. Immediately after his graduation he began his career as a teacher, the common schools of Coraopolis, Neville Island and Haysville, receiving his attention for seven years. The next five years were spent in teaching in the McKeesport Normal School. In 1881, with the establishment of the High School at McKeesport, Pa., Prof. WATT became the first principal. His connection with the school extended through a period of fourteen years. Prof. WATT resigned his office with the High School to establish a private school, which later became the Donora Business College, at Donora, Pa. While teaching day school, he also taught night school for fourteen yeas. As an evidence of the efficient and faithful service he rendered the McKeesport High School, Prof. WATT was presented by the board of directors with an engrossed (sic) copy of a set of six resolutions passed by that body, highly commending him for his services. Prof. WATT, while giving so much attention to educational matters, did not neglect his spiritual life, as his church record will show. At the age of about fourteen he united with the United Presbyterian Church at Gilead, Pa., in which denomination he was an active worker until declining health made it necessary for him to retire from active service. On February 3, 1882, he was ordained and installed ruling elder in the First United Presbyterian church of McKeesport. He served here for twenty years. He was a charter member of the Donora United Presbyterian Church and assisted in the organization of the Second United Presbyterian Church of McKeesport. Upon going to Burgettstown his letter of membership was placed in the First United Presbyterian Church of that town. On December 30, 1880, Prof. WATT was united in marriage to Miss Ella M. BROWN of Allegheny City, who proved a very efficient helper until her death a few years ago. Mrs. WATT was closely associated with her husband in all his educational and church work. Miss Bessie WATT, teacher of Room 6 of the McDonald school, is a foster daughter. Funeral services were conducted at his late home in Burgettstown, Saturday, January 18, at 10 a.m., by the Rev. R. H. MCCARTNEY and the Rev. J. B. CAVITT. Interment in Coraopolis cemetery.
I can only link "to" each page on the other site for items regarding our county. It is not possible for ME to place the Washington Co webpage link on someone else's website-- they have to do that. So, NO, users who stumble upon those items won't find a link to our (collectively "our") county website or necessarily know what is on our site. In response to others who responded on & off-list, the main issue for me is showing support for the many sites devoted to "our" county. I'm not personally offended... but it does confuse me why these choices are made to put Washington Co PA info onto a site not for Washington Co. Like I said, it just doesn't make sense to me.
