    1. [PAWASHIN] Burgettstown Smelter Plant Apr. 18, 1913 McDonald PA Record
    2. Victoria Hospodar Valentine
    3. Burgettstown to Get Big Smelter Plant By an agreement signed last Friday between the American Metal Company, Ltd., of New York and John A. BELL, Burgettstown is to get a new $2,000,000 zinc smelter and sulphuric acid plant. The deal just consummated was for 2,500 acres of the Pittsburgh vein of coal, and 350 acres of surface on the line of the Panhandle railroad at Burgettstown, nine miles west of McDonald. The American Zinc and Chemical Company, a subsidiary concern of the American Metal Company, Ltd., is being organized under a Pennsylvania charter to operate the new plant. N. L. HEINZ, a metallurgical and acid expert, is to be general manager of the concern. He formerly was connected with the Matthiessen & Hegeler Zinc Co., of LaSalle, Ill. The new factory will not be completed for about a year. The company plans to build a model town for its employees, which will number about 500 when the concern starts operations. At first it is proposed to erect a one unit plant with a capacity for 40,000 tons of sulphuric acid and 20,000 tons of zinc annually. The intention is to increase the plant gradually to three or four times its original production. Coal mining by shaft will give to the concern fuel on its own property. Within three years it is proposed to increase the cost of the entire property to about $4,000,000. With the enlarged plant, it is figured by the promoters that the concern will employ 1,500 men. Houses in the proposed new model town will be of brick and of the cottage type. The selection of Burgettstown for the new plant was made by Mr. HEINZ and Dr. Otto SUSSMAN, chief mining engineer of the American Metal Company, Ltd., after eight months' search. Tests were made of the coal and it is estimated that enough can be found on the property to supply the concern, working for 75 years. R. W. COOKE, industrial agent of the Pennsylvania Railroad Lines West, suggested the site approved.

    3. To everyone who replied to me, I'm under the weather so I haven't done much online. I'll read all the replies soon---I sure do appreciate all the help! Wow!! Until I get to read / study all the messages, let me say these few comments: Ruth, I think you found things I've not seen before and many new names to add. I haven't read all of your mails yet but I will. Doris, I feel terrible to tell you this but...... Ancestry "share a file" (census image) notification system is broken. I can't get to the images you sent and hate to ask but.... could you instead send me the year and name you found (like, copy the person's info screen from the census results)? Ancestry tells me that they know it is broken, and "are working on it" but right now when I click the links you sent, all I get is an error screen. Somebody ??? sent census for McClelland (head of house) with Waller in the household---but the wife Martha was Martha McClelland married Thomas McClelland--- the name I had (sister's obit??) was Martha McClelland WALLER--- so maybe the np writer mixed the names up and she was Martha Waller McClelland instead of Martha McClelland Waller?? If so, that Census fits. But no one found Judd Waller (my grandma knew him) so wonder if Judd was a nickname?-- and nickname for what given name?????? If Judd was really James who was married to Rebekah, then you all found the census info. But, the other records clearly say Judd Waller was the father-- not james. To others who sent me mail, I'm not overlooking you, but I haven't opened your mail yet. I was falling asleep while typing a few days ago, and my eyes were swollen into slits. Even the light from the computer monitor or a 25 watt bulb light made my eyes tear and "cry." Not like that today so I guess I'm getting better but sure feel crappy still. Guess it's allergies and I reacted to "something." Don't know what---shrug Again, sorry I haven't replied sooner Judy On 12/4/07, Judy Florian <cageycat@gmail.com> wrote: > > Ruth got me on a quest tonight to find some of my Wallers. > > As an addition to my first long post, I found this: > > > Siblings, children of Judd and Martha McClelland Waller were: > > >

    2. Victoria Hospodar Valentine
    3. On the STERLING farm at Venice the Meyers Oil Company has completed five excellent producers, one well being good for over one hundred barrels per day. Five new wells have been started, two of them being located within 200 feet of the one hundred barrel gusher. These wells are all in old territory which was drilled during the oil excitement at McDonald, and there are several old wells close to the new producers which are yielding as much oil as when they were drilled in 20 years ago.

Her parents were strong and strict Christian people. At an early age she confessed her faith in Jesus and became a member of the United Presbyterian church at Venice, Dr. A. R. ANDERSON, pastor. For 22 years she was a member of this congregation. Miss KELSO was very faithful in her attendance at all church services. Her disposition and devotion made her seem like that other Mary who always sat at the Master's feet. Of the family that remain to mourn her departure is Mrs. Elizabeth SPRINGER of McDonald, Mrs. A. S. DUNBAR of McDonald, Mrs. Margaret YOUNG of Crafton, Mark KELSO of North Star, and William KELSO of Bellvue, Pa. 3. Hi Judy - I have found nothing on a Judd Waller in Washington Co. I even did a google search for Judd and also for Judson Waller. There was a Judson Waller, but not in Wash. Co. NOW- 1860 census for South Strabane Twp. has the following: MCCLELLAND, Thomas age 40 " " Martha age 35 " " William age 72 WALLER , Mary age 39 " " " Martha age 9 You have Annie M. Waller as born in 1851 - possibly this Martha WALLER is Annie M. 1870 census for S. Strabane has: MCCLELLAND, Thomas age 52 Martha age 49 Thomas age 10 William age 86 WALLER, Elizabeth age 12 " " " Martha age 18 " " " Mary age 50 Is this your missing Elizabeth Waller Johnson? I searched the mort. schedules for WALLER - and only one I found was Catherine Waller, age 53 of N. Strabane, who died in 1860 mort. sched. Ruth

    3. Looking at the 1850 census, Andrew WALLER (Sr.) age 39 and family as you listed - next door is William WALLER, b. Delaware age 66 and his family - includes James age 27 - looking at these 2 families, there are 3 old enough for fatherhood William age 28 (living with Andrew Sr., must be brother) George age 24 (living w/Andrew Sr., must be bro.) James age 27, living with 66 yr. old William Waller. MY ASSUMPTION for "spouse" of Martha McClelland are one of these 3 (William, George, James). "IF" they married? Judy, have you tracked these 3 gents? Have you asked Mary Beth at California Historical Soc. if they have a WALLER family file? Ruth
