Hickory, Nov. 21.---Surrounded by their children and grandchildren and a few of their intimate friends Mr. and Mrs. James F. HILL, an aged and highly respected couple residing in this place, today celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of their marriage. Mr. and Mrs. HILL were married November 21, 1850, and have journeyed in life together just three-score years, or only ten years short of the psalmist's allotted span of life. The celebration today was of a quiet nature. Ten years ago Mr. and Mrs. HILL celebrated their golden wedding, with about 200 guests present. The affair was a memorable one, a brass band being present to enliven the occasion, and a dinner such as only Hickory women know how to prepare was served in the Hickory academy building. Two hundred sat down to the feast. The toastmaster of the day was Dr. Joseph MCELROY. Mr. HILL is a son of the late William HILL, who died in 1894 at the age of 100 years, two months and 24 days. He was formerly engaged in the merchant tailoring business, and for a quarter of a century kept a hotel at hickory, but for a number of years has lead a retired life. Of eight children born to Mr. and Mrs. HILL, three are living. These are Thomas and Wilson of Pittsburg, and Calvin of Boston, Mass.

Court News The will of Thomas TRIMMER, late of McDonald, has been probated and letters issued to John McD. TRIMMER. His estate is given his son John. (sic) Edgar EASTER,of McDonald, has been sworn in as a deputy clerk of courts, and will serve in court room No. 1 during this term of criminal court. Wilbert HOPKINS, colored, of Cecil, was found not guilty of carrying concealed weapons and was assessed two-thirds of the costs. The other third was placed on George BROWN, the private prosecutor, also colored. The men had some difficulty ad the prosecutor claimed HOPKINS drew a gun. HOPKINS denied having any weapons. The prosecutor was not in court, but his father, James BROWN, appeared for him. In the case of the commonwealth against Fred LIGGANS, charged with carrying concealed weapons, the jury found the defendant not guilty, and divided the costs between the defendant and the private prosecutor, James BROWN. The parties are colored and are from Cecil. The trouble grew out of the same trouble as that above mentioned, in which Wilbert HOPKINS was the defendant and George BROWN the private prosecutor. On trial before Judge MCILVANE when court was adjourned was the case of the commonwealth against Dominick TAIT, of Raccoon. The private prosecutor was Constable J. K. NICHOLLS, of Burgettstown. The charge against the defendant is felonious assault and battery. He is alleged to have shot a fellow countryman, the bullet taking effect in the fellow countryman's arm, ... through the arm. ... BROWN, colored, of Monongahela ... convicted Tuesday before Judge MCILVAINE on a charge of felonious ... and assault and battery. He was sentenced to pay the costs, fine of $1 and to undergo a maximum sentence of four years and a minimum sentence of one year in the Western penitentiary. A joy ride taken in an automobile by three well known young men of McDonald on July 24 has resulted in their prosecution. Tuesday one of the trio, William STILLEY, went before the court and entered a plea of guilty to the charge growing out of the ride. The other defendants are Stewart MORONEY and Victor MCLANE, who fled and have not been arrested. Young STILLEY was permitted to go upon probation, upon his application to the court to be paroled and his agreement to abide by the trust imposed upon him for one year. Burgess WILES of McDonald is appointed his probation officer and to Mr. WILES the defendant will be responsible for his conduct. STILLEY is 17 years old, a young man of no bad habits, and at present is a student at Duff's college, Pittsburg. He with the other two took the automobile of C. M. WADE, of McDonald, drove it out in the country, and after damaging the machine, left it by the roadside three miles from town. The court warned STILLEY against getting into trouble again telling hi this experience should be a lesson to him. STILLEY paid the costs and the damage that was done to the machine.

Pam, I want to thank you as well for providing information about the Law Library. I was there at 9:00 sharp, and Pat Stavovy was wonderful! She helped me as much as possible in every imaginable way. Add to that the fact that I was able to locate by 3rd great-grandfather on the tax rolls, and I had a happy day. Dear Washington County searchers, Some of my local lines include, Norris, Horn, Weaver, Caldwell, Gilliland, White, Ross, Patterson, McKnight, Crumrine, Young, Fuhrman, Sharpless, Lewis, Hinkson, Baldwin, Dell. Most from Eastern Pa earlier. Much I have everything on so could possibly help someone else or could exchange information on. However -------- I have a Norris Line in North Strabane Twp. that goes back to at least 1782, when John Norris died & left one son, Charles, who was under 21 years. John was married to a Susannah________, who died later. The son, Charles married a Jane ________. I would like to find out what her maiden name was but have not to this date. Charles had sons. That included my John (who married 1st. Elizabeth Ground, who died) and & then Barbara Ann Horn, who outlasted John, who died in 1864. This John had 1 son, My Charles Patterson Norris, from whom I descend. The land on which Charles was born was part of the family land that went clear back to the first John. This is the land that I spoke of once in regard to being the land up from the Quail House, on which the big housing development now sits. It looked better without the development. I have seen early grants for the Norris name nearby but I have not made a connection to any from hunting in records. There was another Charles Norris in the area, who would have been Older than John's son, that I believe is the same one that is listed as enlisting in the Revolutionary War from an adjoining twp. My John also went in to the Revolutionary War from North Strabane Twp. so you can see how early he was in the area. I do know that a Fort Norris was listed in the History of Washington County on land that belonged to William Norris also. It is my belief that these other men were somehow related to my first John, but I've seen nothing to prove it to date. Norris is all over the place from PA to MD & VA and in New England in many records, but I have seen nothing to help for certain. I am looking for some descendant that knows from their Family History, or surviving documentation something about this family. I know that some of the people around the Norris family are said to all have come from Cecil County, MD but can find nothing there to hitch on to. My Norris holdings of research are extensive but nothing seems to come through. My Norris grandmother used to tell me that they came from Norristown, PA & that is possible, but I can't rely on that kind of statement as so many times it is not correct. If anyone on here has something really substantial please let me know, or if you hear of any descendant down the road, I monitor this site. I'll have another one to write about sometime in the future also. Thanks, Ellen J. Ballas Visit my web site at: http://www.familytreetracer.com <http://www.familytreetracer.com/>
