Author: ker17moh Surnames: ralston wilson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.pennsylvania.counties.washington/3469.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: In Guernsey Co, OH I have this recorded: Alsey Ralston John Wilson married on 9 Dec 1820, Vol A-135 Alsey can be a nickname for Alice. I have no record or knowledge of her parentage or descendents. A nickname for Esther is Essie, could it be misspelled to Alsey? I have no idea. If I were to guess, her parents probably where James Ralston and Esther Lyons who came from Ireland about 1797 and settled into Guernsey Co, OH in 1806. James and John are named as being sons of this couple, but a third name, Henry N, is given without stating relation. No daughters are mentioned anywhere that I have read. This is the only Ralston family in Guernsey Co until about 1855. Hope this helps. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. this is a general outline, and may have errors in it, I have just scraped it together from the paragraph on his grandson James posted earlier today, and the 1850 census. the problem is, there were two James, two Thomas's, two Aarons, two Samuel's, etc., etc., etc., all born about the same time as one another, some stayed, some left, but figuring out family lines via the census prior to 1850 is difficult. I've numbered them by generation, but just the first and second and part of the third, as my email insists on justifying in every form other than cascade. please, if you can help me with additions or corrections, I would be very greatful. 1Thomas Moore b. from "Families of Beaver County, Pennsylvania", 1997 excerpted from "The History of Beaver County, Pennsylvania", 1888 "James Moore, farmer, P.O. Hookstown, was born Feb. 16, 1817. His grandfather, Thomas Moore, was born near Easton, Pennsylvania, and married Margaret Hutchison, a Scotch lady. They settled in Washington county, but soon afterward came to Hanover township, and purchased 400 acres of land, where our subject now resides. Thomas Moore was one of the wealthy men of Beaver county, and owned about 1,000 acres of land. He had seven children: James, Nancy, Mary, Samuel, Aaron, Andrew and Margaret. Of these, James married Sarah, daughter of John and Martha (Mahan) Boyd. James Moore died at the age of eighty-four years and his wife at the age of sixty-two. They were members of the United Presbyterian church: in politics he was a Democrat. Their children were John, Thomas, James, Margaret, Martha, Aaron and Sarah. Of these, James, the subject of this sketch, is the only one living. He married Rachel, daughter of Samuel Lindsey. The have three children: Martha A. (Mrs. Ewing), Mary A. and James E. Mr. and Mrs. Moore are connected with the Tomlinson Run United Presbyterian church; politically he is a Democrat." that is all the information given. I am interested in learning more about "young" Thomas, the brother of James, as he may be our Thomas. all but one place is familiar to me in my searches for Thomas, many of the more common names in the family are in Edwin's Thomas's family, and the time frame is about right-1810-1820. if I could find out more about the family it would help me decide if it is indeed the one we seek. I wonder if descendants still live in Hanover? Cornelia

Am looking for someone to go to courthouse (maybe on their next trip) and pull some records from the 1810-1830 timeframe. I know they are there as a cousin on a trip there a couple of years ago saw them, but he didn't make the connection- so he didn't copy them. Am happy to reimburse! I checked the RAOK site but no one seems to volunteer to go to the courthouse-- thanks- annie
I have a copy of "The Heaton Family: 500 Years in America," by Dean Heaton. It is a 900 page book that lists many Heaton lines but does not connect up most of them. There is a chapter devoted to your Enoch Heaton, listing many descendants (but no ancestors). Let me know if you want me to fax you some of this material. Don in Georgia

I don't know about deportation papers, but if he was a miner, the mine company likely had great control over his life. They "imported" workers so... they could just as easily make trouble for him. The time era is ripe for confrontations between miners and companies. Mine "police" often threw miners (wife and children) out of tents or houses in any weather, just because they had the power to do so. If your relative got into any trouble, the mine police could have arrested him, given him to the county sheriff or police. There could be a record in the Prothonotary's office if there was a trial. You could also ask in the Law Library about what records might be local. Judy On 2/23/08, Pamela J.
