    1. [PAWASHIN] Scammehorn
    2. hey there...I'm working on this due to the marriage of a Margaret Scammehorn to Samuel Davison/Davidson...I have no clue if they are "mine" ...but there were clues so I have to prove/disprove it. I have a local gal who does research for me (very reasonable) and just today got a stack of copies from her about the Scammehorns. Seems that Luke dies, leaves his wife Susannah to marry a LANCASTER/LEACASTER? and then in Orphans court there are several choices made for each child...and behold...Margaret is turned over to William Davidson! So, I'm still piecing together things...do you have this documents? Do you have the land records? I haven't transcribed anything yet...just don't have enough to know if this is "mine" yet... I need to find a Samuel DAVISON (c1774-c1830's) who marries Mary Unknown c1795 and has 8 children (per census)...I have an 1825 land record (Washington Twp, Fayette Co., PA)...and then loose them....I was hoping to see Margaret referred to somewhere as a Mary...but I didn't...so it's not looking good.... Sandy

I decided to see what else I could find out about David M Pruden and immediately came up with a bit of a problem. There's an Illinois marriage record for a David M Pruden and Lydia V Shafer in Rock Island Co. Apr 01, 1860. But I show a) he died in Rock Island Co. on May 5, 1860 and b)that his first wife, Elizabeth Jones (for who I have two sets of possible parents) didn't die until 18 Apr 1888 in Turner, SD. Both of these are possible if there was a divorce, but I'd like to have more info. Given his death date he should be in the 1860 mortuary schedules, but I've got to run off to work, so I'll have to look for it later. 1. Re: [PAWASHIN] Meaning of partition
    2. Jack McNatt
    3. The following is the meaning of partition as it applies to wills. This is from Black's law dictionary. It is a helpful source to have on hand when trying to read old legal documents. Partition of a succession. The partition of a succession is a division of the effects of which the succession is composed, among all the co-heirs, according to their respective rights. Partition is voluntary or judicial. It is voluntary when it is made among all the co-heirs present and of age, and by their mutual consent. It is judicial when it is made by the authority of the court, and according to the formalities prescribed by law. Every partition is either definitive of provisional. Definitive partition is that which is made in a permanent and irrevocable manner. Provisional partition is that which is made provisionally, either of certain things before the rest can be divided, or ecen of everything that is to be divided, when the parties are not in a situation to make an irrevocable partition. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, June 22, 2010 3:00 AM Subject: PAWASHIN Digest, Vol 5, Issue 152 > > > If you are having problems reading the digests please UNSUBSCRIBE then > SUBSCRIBE again so you will receive digests in plain text format. > > Additional list information is on > http://www.chartiers.com/pages-new/pawashin.html > > Today's Topics: > > 1. 3. If someone died intestate (without a will) or if the family of the deceased where disagreeing as to how the deceased's land should be divided, the case would go to Orphan's Court and the judge would decide what to do with the property. Many times in the partition books, there are survey drawings of the property as per the court 'partition'. The only business license that was issued in the early were tavern licenses, but businesses were taxed through the collection of personal and property tax. So if a fellow was a blacksmith or a carpenter he usually paid $50 a year for his business. Stills were also taxed after the Whiskey Rebellion. And besides land, horses, sheep, cows, and dogs were also taxed. These notations are in the personal and property tax records in the law library by township. The tax records available date from 1781 through 1850.
