I have a Henry Fuller born in Washington county PA around 1820. I'm tried everything I can think of to find a baptismal record or birth record for him but can't find anything so far. I was wondering would it be possible to contact any churches in the Washington CO. PA area that may still have their early records stored or microfilmed or something like that. I'm doing this research from Australia and It's not very easy, I checked the LDS site as I thought that they would have collected and collate all the old church records in the States from the early years as they have done in so many other countries, this was very dissapointing to me and many other people I should imagine. So the only other thing I can think to do is to start contacting churches that would have existed in that time frame of early to late/mid 1800's. There must be other people with the same problem as our family trying to fi! nd Henry's parents' etc. Any advice is very much appreciated Kind regards Dianna Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If I remember correctly, there is a book at Greater Canonsburg Public Library on the MacMillan family & again if I remember correctly, there is some of the writing in it from John MacMillans Diary. And I agree with you that he listed marriages, baptisms, etc. but gave no names. It is indeed frustrating. You might be able to get a copy through inter library loan but usually these kinds of books are non-circulating. It's worth a try.
There is some data on Presbyterianism in Wash. Co. at Citizens Library. The Presbyterian church has a Historical Society located in Philadelphia. I recently returned from Chester Co., PA History Center & they have much on the Presbyterian Church's beginnings in that area. The Rev. John MacMillan is mentioned in these publications as getting his education at "Faggs Manor" plus more. Reading about his establishing the Presbyterian Church west of the Alleghenies would be a good place to start.

I have always found that the best materials to search in are at the Citizen's Library & I've worked in W&J & at the historical society & that is limited in scope. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of J.A. Hi, W&J has a genealogy and history area on the lower level. They don't do "research" for people but will do a look-up or tell you what they have that might fit your needs. Of course, they have a lot of history concerning W&J, alumni, history of faculty, etc. Just ask for the Genealogy Librarian. If you visit, take the stairs on the right (inside, back-along the side). They have many "reading rooms" where you can sit and take notes, etc. Judy On Sat, Jun 26, 2010 at 6:46 PM, DARWIN LOLA WEBER <[email protected]>wrote: > What type of genealogy resources might be available at the Washington > & Jefferson College in Washington? > > Who would you contact? **** Please visit http://www.chartiers.com/pages-new/pawashin.html for list information, particularly the bottom of the page. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

Hi Judy, We were in Beallsville today and I listed all of the businesses that I saw on Rt 519 starting at Rt 40 going toward the Truckstop . The first business on the right was indeed Ritter Industries. The only other one on that side of the road that I could see was the Penn Dot offices. If there was something farther back off the road between those two, there was no sign for it. Everything else on that side seemed to be homes until you get to the BP and Truck stop where the overpass for 79 is. I don't think that building has always been the Penn Dot office - it seems rather new to me but I can't remember what the old business was called. There were no Simpsons in the Millsboro BUT, there is no original listing for the cemetery. The oldest reading i can find of it (and the genealogy society too) was started in 1997 and finished in 1997. Locals told me that half the burials are not in the list and have no headstones left. The church that had them is long gone and it appears so is anyone who had an earlier list. I have sent a snail mail to the person in charge of the local funeral home for Millsboro info but am expecting either no list or the one I have. Also in the 1997 they mention stones that were unreadable, stones turned over (and they are too heavy for one to move likely) so it possible they have it. I will see what pages I have of the Hewitt and check there. Fredericktown, East Bethlehem and Millsboro are all right next to ! each other now, I took a trip there for research. What type of genealogy resources might be available at the Washington & Jefferson College in Washington? Who would you contact? Thanks
The following information was given for Sarah (Redick) Swearingen in 1813: Abstracts of The Washington PA Reporter 1808-1814, compiled by Bonnie Malmat, Closson Press, Apollo, PA, copyright Feb 1990. Located Seattle WA Pub Lib R929.37488 M296A. Monday, July 19, 1813 - Died - Yesterday about 4 o'clock, Mrs. Sarah SWEARINGEN, relict of the late Joseph SWEARINGEN, and eldest daughter of David Redick, deceased. The amiable qualities of the deceased endeared her to all her acquaintances. Her remains were interred at 4 o'clock this afternoon, in the burial ground of this place. Her husband, Thomas SWEARINGEN was buried at the Cooke Burial Ground, South Strabane Twp, Washington Co PA in 1803, however, I do not see her listed at that burial ground. What other cemeteries were in existence in 1813 in Washington County?
Has a Presbyterian Church History been published for Washington? If so, where is it located? Thanks

I haven't had as much luck with Washington County cemeteries as I have Greene and Fayette unfortunately. I've been searching for death and burial info on my ggg grandfather, Hiram Simpson, for 15 years now. He died between 1880-1898 in East Bethlehem Township, Washington County.
