The 2010 Romberger All-Family Reunion is set for Saturday, August 21. As before, it will be at the beautiful Hill Church in Berrysburg PA where many Romberger forebears rest. This year we celebrate 257 years of Rombergers in the U.S.! The Rombergers are a well-documented family, and this year's reunion will have two historians in attendance- the past historian, Dr. John Romberger and the new one, Bob Averell. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore your own roots and ensure you're linked too. Folks are asked to bring a covered dish if possible, and if not, not to worry, there's always plenty of food. It's a beautiful place, and an occasion for fine fellowship, conversation, viewing displays, and walking the cemetery. Also, there's a lot to do in the area so you can make a weekend of it if you choose. Contact Frank Herzel today for an information packet at [email protected] or at (717) 545-6964. Whether you go this year or not, it will get you on the mailing list for updates and future invitations. This is a rare chance to have the benefit of people who truly know the family, so take a minute and get in touch. Hope to see you there! Hi Jean, Which Monongahela Cemetery do you mean? There is one in North Braddock (Allegheny County) and another in Monongahela (Washington County). Since your aunt died in Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh is in Allegheny County, you might first try the one in North Braddock. Burial listings for that cemetery are here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~tandnmca/monongahela/monce m.html . If you find your aunt in the listings, you can request the complete burial record, which should contain the cause of death. Cemetery contact info is on the site. The cemetery in Monongahela, Washington County, will reply to requests for genealogical information. Email your inquiry to [email protected] . The cemetery has a website, www.monongahelacemetery.com, but it doesn't contain burial listings. County registration of births and deaths stopped when the state took over this function in 1906, so records you're looking for should exist at the state level. Perhaps you will find something in the cemetery burial record that will lead you to the birth and death certificates - a different name, a different spelling, a different date, etc. Good luck with your search. What would be the problem? I have an aunt who was born Feb 1906 in Allegheny Co., PA and died 22 mar 1907 and is buried in Monangahela Cemetery, Pittsburg, PA. When I sent for her death certificate, they said that there is no record. The family was not poor and so I am wondering why what are other possiblilities to find out the cause of death. She supposedly fell off a bed and died. Does that cemetery have a list of burials? Jean, Wasn't 1906-7 right around the time they started mandating the reporting of deaths at the local level? Second, I'd write to the funeral homes to get their records first for clues to follow. Third, citizens liked "inquests" back then so you might try the Prothonotary's offfice to see if anything was held. A fall from bed is not normally enough to kill unless it is an infant... I'd wonder if something else killed her and the fall was secondary to the "something else". Fourth, do you have her obit? With an exact date as you have, Citizens Library would do a look-up for a fee. Fifth, the Mon Cemetery likely has records, being a larger cemetery. Makes a much neater story. I hadn't done too much on this branch of the family, so I'm now entering in all the descendants of Silas I can find. The biggest problem I have is that Family Treemaker want's to give my relationship to the Silas Pruden family via the marriage of Julia Pruden to George Washington Conrad who IS my ancestor, but not via Julia), rather than my actual Pruden connection via George Washington Evans and Lucy Pruden. Maybe there's a way to force the program to look for a blood relationship to the family rather than just the shortest connection, but I don't know it. List, It just occurred to me, I should make sure I put a township for each church I have on http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~florian/ If you can help with that task, send the info to: "WashingtonCoPA Webmaster" <[email protected]>, Judy PS Still working on cemeteries and other stuff. -- -- WASHINGTON COUNTY PA WEBSITES::: http://freepages.misc.rootsweb.com/~florian/ Coordinator of the Washington County PAGenWeb: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pawashin/
Dianna, First, do you have any clues about what faith Henry Fuller held? Second, what Township was he in from 1820 on? There are no official birth records that early. Baptisms will be hit&miss, and whether the church created or kept records (some did not). Your better bet may be to locate his tombstone or his obituary. It won't necessarily give a DOB but it might give a clue, a year, or an age at death. It is hard to research from across the world. But even if you were in PA, it wouldn't mean you'd find the church record you seek; some records are very scarce. As far as churches, use the first link below to browse some of the churches in the area. Addresses are given if I have them. This will give you the places to write if you can narrow down the choices of which church. You can also Google to see if a church has an official website to get the history. You can browse cemetery lists (not complete) on the 3rd link -- the PAGenWeb site for Washington County PA. Post whatever you know about him; maybe someone in the States could do some look-ups for you.
