During the big days, at Brunots Island he had trained a public stable and raced both professionally and in the matinee sport for many years. He brought out among others the pacing mare, Lady May 2:04, whom he drove to her record at Columbus in 1904. He also raced Robin C., 2:08 1/4, for R.H. Boggs, Lady May was owned by W. A. He was street commissioner at Washington, Pa. He had a wide acquaintence in this locality. But I still need his burial and possibly Morehead and Helen married there? Does anyone have that info? I'm happy to share the little information that I have but what I've accumulated is mostly what is freely available on the web (apart from Virginia Cagnon's children, grandchildren etc.) My wife has other French connections because Virginia married Donton Canonge, born in the US of French-born parents (from Meyrannes in Gard). I haven't had any success in my limited attempts to trace them further back either ... I'm in Australia and my own ancestors are 100% English, Irish or Scottish (although one Scot was born in Trinidad), so I have little experience outside the data sources for those countries. My wife's aunt was compiling some family history but she died last year and I'm not sure what became of her records. I will have to ask her son. I have come to discover that among other meanings, "inmate" circa 1770s on tax rolls, meant that one was recently married and thus received a reduction in tax assessment.

To anyone on this list who may have receive a strange email from my Yahoo email address on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, my apologies. My Yahoo email was hijacked on Thursday afternoon and they stole my contacts list. Then the email hoax, "I'm in London and was mugged" was sent to practically all my contacts. I was not even logged in to my Yahoo account when it happened. I had my preferences set to notify by cell phone if any of my passwords, etc. were changed so I knew exactly when it happened. I notified Yahoo quick enough that they were able to lock the account for 24 hours and I was then able to recover my email account but my entire contacts list was gone. I now have to recreate my contacts list. If you know you were on my list or you would like to be, please send me and email with the subject: Email address and I will be able to add you into my new list. Sincerely, Pam Nixon Whispers From The Past Family History Research Service Westland, PA 15378-0008 Genealogy research services provided covering the southwestern Pennsylvania counties of Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland.
OFF-TOPIC but an important heads-up. I am writing this because someone on this list has had their E-mail account hi-jacked and probably does not even know it (yet). Bad guys can steal any e-mail account. Once they get in, they change the password to lock out the owner and use the account to send s**m and other junk, often to defraud you. One method they use to get *you* to respond with money is sending E-mail from your List friend or other friend or even a family member, saying (whoever's account it is) went on an unexpected trip to xxx (typically an overseas location), and was robbed or whatever, and they are embarrassed / ashamed / apologetic, but would you please send money (alternate: call this *supposed* Bank manager--who is "in" on the attempt to defraud) so they can get home (back to the US). The e-mail will look *exactly* like all other emails you've ever gotten from that person, ***especially*** if they have a "signature line" set up in their email account. A good reason to NOT use a sig line, especially one that gives your name / address / phone number! Sig lines make these fake mails LOOK real. If you read closely, the emails have misspellings, typos, and will NOT sound like "your friend" -- cos it isn't sent by your real friend. Do NOT be alarmed and don't feel guilty for "ignoring" the "crisis". Do NOT reply! It is 99.9% safe to say it is likely a hoax and your friend is really safe, at home, locked out of their email account and can't figure out why, and while they're trying to figure that out the bad guys are mailing out fake "I'm in a crisis" letters to everyone in the contacts list! Do a search for email+mugged overseas+send money and educate yourself about these scams. This time, the victim from this List is a genealogist who does work for hire .... next time it could be your account. So safeguard your passwords; change them often. If you know an *alternate* email account for the "victim", send the person a note. But don't reply to the account that sent you the fake email !! For today's "victim", I don't have her alternate email address. :-( OT-- so it's better to not reply on-list. Just wanted people on this List to be aware they might be getting a fake E-mail. Judy
Dear List, Does anyone on the list have info about this cemetery? Does it still exist? Has it been read? Where exactly is it? TIA Carole Clarke

Lists, I'm still recovering from being ill this summer. I'm almost half-way through working with & adding to the complete cemetery database. It's been slow-going with such a long list of cemeteries AND matching each to all the name changes. With the help of Gina Nestor's database, we have a more complete list of the changing names of many cemeteries. I have several more burial lists to add and photos too. If you have a burial list, check the Cemetery Index first to see if I already have it. I don't have every cemetery, certainly. The index includes cemeteries "just over the county line" of Washington County, PA. The index is here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/cemetery/index.html The first column links to just an Information Card. This gives a quick view of Name, Location, Address, Background, etc. The second column has the County (or State) -- whether it's in Washington County or somewhere else. The third column gives a link to the cemetery burials online. The fourth column gives a link to photos, if I have any. The fifth column is whether it is a private/family cemetery, or the church denomination, or company owned. The sixth column is for lookups. As we get more online, there will be less need for anyone to do look-ups. But if you have access and I don't have the census, please consider offering lookups. I'll need your name and email address. ALL the cemetery lists MUST be considered incomplete, considering these factors: 1. many have unmarked graves 2. official records may not exist//may have burned//may have been lost 3. many stones may have been//may still be missing or were added later 4. when "walking the cemetery", people may have missed//may miss stones 5. stones may have been//may be unreadable 6. even obituaries *may* be wrong; even my sister's obit has her buried in the wrong cemetery To compensate for omissions, anyone can add a burial or send a corrections. I make a second page for these and link the pages together. I hope this information helps when you are looking for burials. I will continue to work on the cemeteries as I am able. Hi Lists, The "1883 Pensioners on the Roll" for Washington PA is on multiple pages starting here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/military/pensioners/1883_list_of_pensioners_on_the_roll_1.html The original lists were sorted only by town/residence. Therefore, the names were not in alphabetical order; certificate numbers were not in order of processing. You'll notice I added a descendant column. If anyone is your ancestor, send me your info and I'll add your name to that column. You must tell me if you want me to link your name to your email address. Look on the bottom of every page for links to Sortable Tables for 1883 List of Pensioners on the Roll. It is the same data as above. Click on any header to make the table sort. The contents will *not* return to the original order because of how javascript works. To return to the original table, you will need to exit the page (use back button) and return again to the page (use the forward button) or use F5 to refresh the page. ***The only column not fully sortable is date. It only sorts by month. Maybe later I'll split date and month into 2 columns but for now this will have to do. First sortable page starts here: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/military/pensioners/1883_list_of_pensioners_on_the_roll_1_sort.html For abbreviations used and more information about pensions: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/military/pensioners/1883_list_of_pensioners_on_the_roll_abbreviations.html I need people to help with this list: A Study of Known German Baptists (Dunkards) compared to the "1883 List of Pensioners on the Roll" from Washington County PA http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~pawashin/military/pensioners/german-baptists_1883_list_of_pensioners_on_the_roll.html You can use Ctrl+F or on-site search as well. George (surname unreadable) was a blacksmith and lived in Allen Twp.; wife was May and children were Sarah Jane, Hiram OR Miriam, and Elizabeth Ann. (looks more like an H and Hiram than Miriam.) A white female child was born August 18, 1852 in Allen Twp. to George and Mary. (big line is thru surname from microfilm); I have searched each of the names in 1850/1860 census and no luck - HELP !! Any assistance greatly appreciated. Ruth Sprowls
I have a birth for a white male, unnamed, born August 12, 1852 in East Pike Run Twp. Father was Thomas (Holly, Holtz, Kelly, or ???) and he was a laborer; mothers name is illegible, but could be Eliza. (the 1st letter of surname looks like an H) Siblings were : Joseph, John, William, Alexander, Margaret and either Jane or James. (am thinking Jane). This is one of the births from the 1850's project. When the birth record was copied onto microfilm, a black line ran thru the fathers surname and also thru the mothers first name. I have searched 1860 census for a male born abt. 1853 <2> and cannot come up with any result for a father named Thomas. Anyone researching a family that has these names ??? Thanks, Ruth
Hi Barbara, I have a Footnote subscription. Was your Paul Bishop a Fife Major from from Germantown, PA? There is an application for a pension for his widow, Sarah (nee Lipphard?), age 67 years on 27 AUG 1855. She married Paul Bishop in Germantown 8 JUN 1807. He died in 1836. If this is your guy, please let me know and I'll copy the file for you.
